The problem is, I've only got at inch of clearance around the head for a puller

Does such a puller exist?

Proto 4011 10-ton cross arm puller.

The puller arms fit well in low-clearance conditions and you can bolt the 4016 and 4017 arms together to get 14"+ of reach.

It's also available as a 3-arm puller.

Cool, do you happen to have a p/n for it?

J4292B is the part number for the whole set, including 2-arm, 3-arm and a bearing separator.

Here's one listing for it:

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B001VY3GH8/?tag=atomicindus08-20

Individual parts can be found on the Proto website:

http://www.protoindustrial.com/en/s...Tools/brand-Proto/subcategory-Pullers/page-8/

The numbers I gave in my first post are the old numbers for individual pieces. Stanley has changed some Proto part numbers, so they may be different now.

They're excellent pullers. I've been using both the 6-ton and 10-ton versions of the Proto cross arm pullers for 45+ years.

I had a chance to measure everything today. I need. 20 inches of reach.

I'm thinking about getting the 2 arm kit, then making extensions out of 1/2" flat stock.

had to make a set of pretty beefy jaw extensions.

The puller worked great, with the exception of the fact that the screw is pretty bent.

I'm going to see if proto will warranty it.

I emailed proto, never got a response, Called them today (had to use the puller again) They told me since I bought it on Amazon, they couldn't warranty it. (Which is weird since they sell it to amazon) Told me to buy a new one. I'm sending it in to thier CS dept with a letter expressing my dissatisfaction.

I love that puller! I got mine in a haul from an oldtimers garage, never knew they still made it. Mine has some springs that keep the jaws from sliding around, no idea if theyre original or something from the previous owner. They look almost like socket rail springs.

I use that puller more than any others in the puller drawer.

After a closer look, they must be original.

See if Amazon will warranty it. Or get a new screw by figuring out the thread and figuring it out. An OTC puller screw I needed was on (you know what site) for far cheaper than list price; about half what it was through Grainger.
