Need a 16oz. dead blow hammer....

I only need to use the flat end for some light metal forming. Is the flat part safe to use on metal like the flat part on a ball peen? I'm assuming yes.

There are other tools in that family that are flat/flat deadblows and dead-blow ballpeen. All of them should be designed for metalwork.

Snap-on doesn't do significant amounts for woodworking or general contracting, etc. So they almost certainly are not designed to pound nails, or heat treated like a claw hammer.

I know you said you need a 16oz. The picture of that SO hammer didn't show on their site for me when I used the link you posted so I wanted to make sure you knew that hammer has a rubber tip on the other side......

As so many of us here have, I have gone with Trusty Cook hammers now and have zero regrets. They are made in USA and are the OEM for many other brands like Armstrong and Matco plus they participate here on GJ. Anyway here are some pics off their site. Their ballpeens start @ 26oz. They also have the same size in flat / flat if you prefer. The 26oz starts@ $42 but you can get a 3 hammer pack @ 20% off and be less than that SO hammer for 3 hammers. Just some food for thought if you didn't already know.

They sell claw hammers so I wanted to be 100% sure. I assumed because it has a rubber tip too that it was for metal but I wanted to be sure. And I'm looking for a 16oz. SO doesn't have any metal flat / flat 16oz. dead blows, the only metal flat / flat I found was the 32oz. drilling hammer.

Don't need that weight. I have other size ball peens (not dead blow). I'm specifically looking for a 16oz. metal dead blow. Thanks though.

Weird, the link works for me but yes I know the other side is rubber. I don't need the rubber side NOR the round side on a ball peen. I have other size ball peen hammers I just need a 16oz. for my upcoming project. My larger ones (32oz. & 48oz.) are too large and my smaller one (6-7oz.) is too small.

I looked at trusty-cook and they no longer make a 16oz. dead blow ball peen so I'm stuck with SO and some cheap no name on ebay which I don't trust. I found a 16oz. Armstrong (Apex) which is made by TC but now that they're going under I'm not going to waste my money.

you should be fine with the dual-material hammer in the OP, or the 160z snap on deadblow. I believe Tc malkes a 16oz head deadblow but they market it by the weight including handle--send them a msg and they will confirm. Any of those would be good.

You could alseo get into something like the PB #4 with metal/nylon faces, or similar hammers from Halder, Habero or another euro brand. Somebody did manage to crack one of them and it shattered, and posted it on GJ somewhere, so the metal faces on PB is not indestructable if you go that route and need to abuse it.They are deadblow.

So, sorry for the 2 year delay response, but how did these hammers work out? I'm thinking of getting a 1lb version of the lower one that's sold under various labels, e.g. Tekton, OEM, Neiko. Also not a pro or even serious amateur, just have some jobs where this would come in handy.
