So I have a HF 1/2” breaking bar. But it keeps losing the screw in the head. Not happy about that. Not messing with it anymore!

I normally try and buy very used old tools that have some quality. No longer happy with HF. So what can I get? I have SnapOn and am a fan but what else could I choose? Not looking for Chinese made (hence “old” earlier).

Want at least 1/2” drive & 18” long but really want 24”..

TIA!

Take the 24" HF breaker bar, fix the bolt, and put it in your car with the right socket for your lug nuts. Way better than the cheap lug nut wrenches. I did this so my petite wife could stand a chance at turning the wrench without having to jump on the handle.

Then keep your eye out at sales for an old good one for a few bucks. They're out there.

I have both the breaker bar and ratchet from snap on in 24" and they are great.

On the other hand I also have the one from HF and it works great. Perhaps some epoxy or red locktite?

I got the 30 inch Mac. It’s sweet. Pics of a gearwrench 24 compared to a MAC 30.

I could be wrong but, I don't see many vintage breaker bars in 24" length. Not saying they aren't out there, just uncommon.
I have a modern Mac 24" that is great, and I have a few vintage examples around 10" to 18".

Probably best chance of finding a vintage USA in that length would be a truck brand, Snap-On/Cornwell/Mac. I'm curious when 24" bars started being "commonly" offered now that I think about it.

I have a 30” SK...pretty sure it’s made in USA.

Looks very durable. I buy some HF like most because money is tight or just going to use it a few times or I’m not doing precise work. But when you’re doing work and has to get done and your tool fails...you lose patience and confidence with the company. Not buying their tools.

IMHO use a 12-18 inch bar and carry a 16-18 inch piece of pipe which fits on the breaker bar's handle you do not want too long a pipe as the breaker bar can break at the socket connection..........just a redneck way of doing things !!!

Yep do it all the time. It’s and steel pipe that’s 30-32” and is 1” in diameter. Need to clean it up but other projects take precedence! [emoji23]
