The one size I don't have.

I'm thinking 1/2" drive. For rear axle job. Should be impact grade, but I may have to settle for a chrome one.

Does Home Depot, Lowe's, AutoZone, Advanced Auto or Pep Boys carry something like this? I've never really looked when I'm there...

I don't want to spend a fortune and I want to pick it up this week.

Also, if someone has a truck brand socket for sale, let me know. If we could work things out and you could ship it to me ASAP, let me know...

Thanks!

How many times has Elroy heard the same question. A dozen times a least. Please be advised that a 1-3/16" socket works.

Yes, I had the 30mm black chrome socket in my hand at HF Friday (sidewalk sale). $19.99 for the set with 30mm being the largest size in the sharp (as in, you can get cut on it) metal box they come in.

I just picked up a 30mm at Napa, Deep impact they are were on the hanging board out in the store. Actually they called it an axle nut socket. $14

I need it to take off the output shaft nut on my e30. I had to put it in my lathe and take a bit of the top diameter down because of the limited Clarence. Still cheaper than a specialty thin wall sold for the purpose at almost $45.

I guess I'd better double check things. I'm doing it on my E30 as well. It seemed like there was enough clearance to me when I tried it with another sized socket, 29mm Mac I believe.

do you have menards?? my menards sell 30mm, 32mm, 36mm deep impact sockets... i am not sure if your hometown area had menards??? :headscrat

No Menards around me.

I've rented a 30 and a 36 at AutoZone at different times. The way it works is you buy it, then they give you a refund when you return it. The tools are used, but quite good.
That way, if you don't return the tool, they get paid. It's a useful program.
Not all AutoZones do it, but all the local ones around me do.

The next time I needed a 36 I went ahead and bought one of the 3/4 inch HF tool sets for 20.00 bucks. I use it with a 3/4 - 1/2 adaptor, as the 3/4 stuff is just too awkward on small work.

I am too. I always see you guys posting stuff that you bought in Menards.

please let me know if you still need 30mm deep impact socket from menards which i dont mind to go to menard to get it as it is price for like 15 or 16 plus tax... i can ship to you if you need to... but i am concern about warranty... if you cracked it and no menards around your area...

None of the auto parts stores around you have a 30mm axle nut socket? They are not kept in the same place as the other sockets where I bought mine but were up by the counter. Might try some type of farm store like TSC or farm & home as they sometimes have sets that would include 30mm. The 30mm axle nut socket is a lot thicker material than the 30mm Grey pneumatic socket if clearance is going to be an issue.

Elroy is a smart guy. I use my SAE stuff for larger sizes. 1 1/4 is "good 'nuff" for my 32mm axle nut socket. A Napa should have one, or any small true auto parts store will have one.

Hell, I needed a 30MM for the oil drain plug on my 95 Jaguar XJ6...bought a used 1/2 drive impact for $3 at a local pawnshop. Who the heck decided that they needed to use such a huge fastener on an oil drain plug?

I was amazed...I kept grabbing bigger and bigger sockets until the 30MM finally fit. Most of my other cars use somewhere between 15 and 17MM fasteners. The Jag holds almost 9 qts of oil and let me tell ya, it comes out of the drain hole like a gusher. The hole is bigger than the norm, but the head on the drain plug is HUGE.

My guess would be so that the average joe with a set of sockets from sears couldnt change it himself....

Which model of car is it that has a security bit in the drain plug?

Car makers dream is no user serviceable parts inside.

VW-Audi, they use a tamperproof M16 XZN/Spline bolt for the transmission drain plug. luckily, i have an impact one.

it's a pain when you need to undo a hub nut and it's a 12-point nut. Toyota and VW-Audi cars use 12-point hub nuts.

if you guys need help finding european tools, let me know. happy to help/ship from over here.
