Check the TFI module on the distributor. Not unheard of for those to go out.

On this car it is located on the passenger side, buried under the air cleaner assy hose. It was the first item I replaced.

One good thing about 94+ Mustangs is.. when they relocated that TFI module off of the distributer, it made them last a lot longer. Plus they also added a much needed heat sink. Putting it up on the distributer for all those years was just asking for trouble.

The guy helping me with the car is bringing a tester tonight so we can check the secondary ignition system. I'm having the owner call the company that installed the alarm to see if it disables the ignition system when the alarm has been tripped when a fuse has been pulled. I swear once we get that car running I'm going to rip that ******* thing out of the car.

Well, it cooled off (a bit) while I was waiting for my local Mustang guru to come out and assist. I had found a great troubleshooting thread on Stang.Net that deals with no-start issues. I kept reading it and then looking under the hood for clues and then I noticed I'd forgotten to reconnect the pigtail to the MAF. :headscrat No way. I reconnected it, hopped inside, and dammit if that thing didn't roar to life.
Whew. One issue down.

I moved it next to my garage so that after work I would have a shaded area to work on it. In the meantime, I pulled the speed sensor from the transmission and noted that it is all electric and not cable driven. The gear is fine, so I'm assuming the issue with the speedometer and odometer not working is behind the gauge cluster. All of the fuses in the fuse panel are good. BTW -- don't those come with a cover? The vehicle in question does not have one, so I don't know what fuses serve what component(s).

Followed a DIY on www.Odometer.Gears.com regarding the Mustang cluster and found a broken gear that was also slathered in some kind of grease. A new gear is on order and the housing is all clean.

OK, I cleaned up the speedometer cluster, replaced the faulty drive gear, and reassembled everything. I took the car out for a spin -- and nothing. No movement with the speedometer needle nor the odometer/trip meter. I'm hoping the little motor where the worm gear attaches wasn't damaged due to being hung up on the broken gear. Is that possible?
