does anyone even make a 3/4 drive 1 11/16 square impact socket? I am at a loss as to how to take the rusted axle nuts off my 1950s John Deere disc short of cutting them off. I have a Proto 1 11/16 combination wrench but the nuts are rusted solid.

I had to do the same thing and simply took the gangs to an implement dealer (called ahead and arranged to go on a Sat. morning) and let them do it. They used their 1" drive impact to remove them for $25, then when I was done with the rebuild, several weeks later, they tightened them back up for $15. You can't buy the socket for near that.

They first applied some kind of grease to the threaded shank, then blue wrench, then the impact. Came right off. :)

Nut splitter.
If they are rusted so solid that a properly fitting wrench can't budget them, you will likely have to cut them off.

On machinery that old they really get bonded into one. If you have a 1 inch impact I would buy the socke and try it but if the dealer can not get it off I would be supprised if they charge you. I know a lot of places that don't charge if they can't do something. It only takes a few minuets of BS time to try. LOL

Used a large pipe wrench and a cheater pipe to remove the nut for the coulters on a gang once.Penetrating oil and some heat and it spun loose. The other side however required cutting the nut as close to the threads as possible and then splitting it into pieces with a chisel and hammer. The threads survived believe it or not.

If I cant get them off with a wrench after some heat and cool cycles I take my ph3050 snappy air hammer and chisel into the corners of the nut, it breakes them loose and spins them off. Slap on new ones and good to go.

I'm soaking in PB blaster and will try my air hammer. I got the other nuts off with heat alone.
