Need a bit of Craftsman compressor help here ..

Greets to all ..

Picked this up last weekend and finally has a chance to fire it up today after getting high voltage out to the garage. The bad news is that (1) it has a very tiny leak where the feed tube meets the tank and (2) the pressure switch isn't working at all when 150PSI is reached. The good news is that it pumps up nicely and the pop-off valve works as designed.

Let me preface the following by saying "In most cases, stock is just fine with me." I don't see a need to reinvent the wheel when I have no need to.

The problem is that I don't know the Sears model number. The label seems to have been exposed to some heat. With the model number, I can look up the part number for the switch and check availability ....

The specs as I know them are: 220V single phase motor ... 2 cylinders ... 20 gallon tank ... 150 PSI max ...

Anyone have any idea what the model number might be, or at the very least, who the manufacturer was?

it should be one of these, the manual covers all three. 106.154580, 106.154680, or 106.154780. pressure switch part number is cw-2069 for the first one, the second two take part number cw-2070. my manual says febuary of 1975 so who knows how relevant these numbers are, I would assume any generic switch would work. good luck.

the main difference I noticed was the 580 was 100 psi max while the other two were 150. my dad bought this new, I had to put a new motor on it cause the shaft broke but it works like a champ. post back what you find, it would be interesting to know if anything is available incase I ever need anything.

SS454 - I've done a bit of digging and all those that come up as being 'compatible' max out at 125PSI and are non-adjustable. I have a compressor/tool place near here and will call them Monday. Will report everything when I get it.

I have a similar compressor with a 30 gallon tank. The label on the tank says it was made by DeVilbiss.

The 106 prefix indicates it was made by Campbell Hausfeld
I have a similar one that is about 10 years newer that is green.

Devilbiss made compressors should have a 919 prefix.

Mine is 919. OP can't read the model number on his, but if his tank was DeVilbiss, the compressor likely is also. Tank should have a metal tag.

Not seeing a metal tag on the tank .... or anywhere else.

I checked the Sears site and they still stocked the switch .... at a stupid/obscene high price.

I did get a Condor pressure switch that matched all the specs as I knew them. Will need to use a bit of imagination to hook up the unloader line, but we'll give it a go.

Interesting when you use google to search model numbers.
The decal on your compressor is similar to a 1975 compressor.
There is a paint sprayer and a Craftsman crown logo on yours.

A 1976 compressor removes both of them.
I could not find a larger pic of the 1975 compressor label, but you can make them out.

Notice the colors also.

Mine is a few years newer and is seafoam green, also made by Campbell Hausfeld

Same here, but they could have easily value-engineered a 100psi max. unit using a less-expensive motor, by tweaking down the pressure switch a bit and relabeling. Marketers did all kinds of stupid stuff like this to save themselves $5 per unit.

The '150 PSI' can be seen at the top of the label in my photo.

This one is 150 PSI .. 20 gallon .. 220V / 2HP .. twin cylinders. The one that's getting replaced is also a Craftsman .. 125 PSI .. 12 gallon .. 110V / 1HP .. single cylinder.

Good news yesterday.

Got the new pressure switch installed, at the expense of losing the 'stock' look.

I was under the impression that the new one would come out of the box adjusted for 90PSI cut-in and 150PSI cut-out. Not the case at all, as I needed about 4 'cycles' (and 2+ turns on the adj screw) to get the cut-out down to 150.

Very happy thus far, now I need to turn my attention toward the line pressure adjustment assembly. Not really responding to changes.

Update: Needed to get a new line pressure regulator. Problem was, the original unit was also made to function as a manifold.

Long story short, I ended making my own manifold from pieces of 1/4" pipe from the hardware store. It's quite ugly, but works great.

I just picked up this one. It looked lot like yours when i got it but had years of grease and grime on it. After almost a half gallon of acetone and a couple of rattle cans i got it looking great. It has some issues with the switch as well.

I went to drain mine the other day and the valve is about ready to give up. Before the weather gets too much colder, gonna have to put a proper ball valve in there.
