Take a look at Zebralights. The offer many different color temps and beam patterns.

Emisar is adjustable brightness. I use rechargable batteries in it. On low power a battery lasts all day. You can crank up the brightness to eye damaging level or anything in between.

I found this one in the desk drawer and tried it.
quite surprising how much brighter it was vs the HF one.
I may want to get another of these for quick changeout while welding
because battery life is unknown.

Streamlight Microstream or Stylus Pro.

Smaller, brighter, and rechargeable if you want. They cost more than most but as long as you don't lose it then it will end up cheaper in the long run.

You can buy six cheap ones for the same amount of money that a streamlight cost and that single streamlight will outlast all six cheap ones combined. Trust me, been there done that. I'm done going down that road.

Zebralight owns the small light market. They are so far ahead of their competition it's not even funny.

You might be able to use one of these. It's become my favorite headlamp. It's so comfortable and has a nice wide flood pattern. It might fit your helmet.

while those fein pivots are nice at 500 lumens
the battery life ,even on 250 isnt that great.

The gearlight I have was $7 each,5 yr warranty.
Son has a steamlight and a lux meter,we will test both and see if the streamlight is worth 3x the price.
The gearlight is well made,be careful there are some cheap copies of it out there.

I use Amazon special cree lights on my welding helmet. This one is a AA but they also make a 18650 version and I'm sure you can find something rechargeable.

I wouldn't put anything expensive on my welding helmet because it gets beat and eats smoke, sparks, and slag.

Also a tip I found that really helps with vision is to cover the back of our head and hood. If you block out the light from behind you can see way better.

Tried a cheapie on my gun. Melt city. Have one on the helmet now. Would be better if it had a focus beam.

I didnt start this out as a comparison but I collected a Streamlight and a gearlight
so did a quick compare.
This isnt an exact on the lumens but with a lux meter its pretty clear the streamlight
is the winner. But the switch on it is a 2 handed deal.
The gearlight switch is easy to operate, even with gloves on.
For this application where you dont need overpoweringly brite light, the gearlight works fine.

lens is always at a #4 while static
As one gets older it gets harder to see in low light conditions.
This fixes that perfectly. If its too bright it tricks the eyes and blinds you momentary
but not in a harmful way like an arc would.

While Im not familiar with Zebralight I can say that Olight has some very small very bright lights.

I have several of both, Oilight makes a good light but I think Zebralight is a step ahead. The SC5 puts out more lumens on a single AA than most lights do that are running two AAs.

Will have to check them out. Is there a website that you prefer to buy from?

I've bought at least one from both Going Gear and Battery Junction but I'm not sure if they even carry them anymore. You might have to order direct. Here are some slightly older reviews, I have the SC51, SC52 and SC600. The 600 is very bright but takes a 18650 compared to the others that are AA. They have newer ones that are even brighter. My SC52 should not even work anymore as much as I've used it, carried every day for over ten years. If it ever does die I will get an SC5.

It took me a long time to learn this, but this is a huge tip. The difference that a rear shroud makes it amazing.

Maybe we are missing the point on this.
Object is to light something less than 4 ft away.
The HF light is woefully weak,as shown by all the other submissions here.
In my case the Gearlight works just fine, and slipping a piece of rubber fuel/vacuum line over the clip,it holds very well.

What helmet are you using, I went from a sub $100 welding helmet to a over $300 Speedglas and it's amazing how well I can see. Even before it darkens I can see a lot better.

Before I got this helmet I was going to mount a good headlamp to the top of my old one.

Lincoln lens in my old Daytona Mig helmet
I havent found a more comfortable or lighter helmet so went with a replacement lens
when the old one finally quit(15yrs later)Seems to work fine with the additional light
I ll keep a spare while welding in case battery life is short.
At $7 each I can keep a couple extras.

Yeah I would just get a head lamp, remove the strap and use velcro to attach it to the top of your helmet.
