Need A Builder/Contractor Recommendation in Michigan

We're in the Brighton/Fenton/Howell area. I am looking for contractor/builders, specifically ones that specialize in pole buildings and garages. Start to finish. I have already spent the last 3 weeks dealing with a builder I think will do a good job, but the communication is lacking...and if it's lacking already - I can only imagine what it will be like if I pulled the trigger. He also wants me doing more legwork than I have time for. Anyone local have any recommendations? Happy with what you had built? Looking to have a 30x40 or 30X50 pole building built to match the look of our home (NOT an all-steel building). Thanks in advance.

Deedler Construction in the Pinckney area seems to specialize in garages. He did my detached garage in Pinckney and I'm happy with it.

Deedler was the only company from about 6 I have called to never return my call. Business must be good for them. I've had 4 other folks come out just this week alone to look at the property and (eventually) get me estimates since then, so as far as I'm concerned, you snooze...you lose.

This won't help but Good Luck finding anyone right now in SE Michigan. I rep for a concrete admixture that waterproofs concrete, Vapor Lock and an American made Trench Drain product, Eric'sons DuraTrench so I'm at Batch Plants and around builders and Concrete Contractors all week. Everyone is slammed to the max right now. My neighbor is building a house, he's the GC and he can't find an Electrician, Plumber or a Concrete guy for his basement unless he wants to overpay 30-40% more. Look into using Vapor Lock Enhanced Concrete for you slab; it will be the third driest garage in the State.

Another bump, I'm in Lansing and also looking for a builder. The folks I started out working with turned out to be horrible at meeting expectations during the design phase.

My cousin had Stan Chubb at C & S construction out of Mason build a 2100 sf shop this past fall. He was referred from a few others in the Area who Stan had build buildings for. He wasn't the cheapest quote but he builds a beautiful shop. My Cousin was extremely satisfied with Stan.

I've also seen some really nice barns from Byrum Builders.

I highly recommend a local contractor Tim Singer. He did my master bath remodel and also finished my basement. Great guy, honest, hard working, based out of Howell. If anyone would like his information PM me and I'll get you his number.

With all the new construction in our area is rough finding a crew to put up anything lately. I built a new barn last year and was lucky to get a crew to put it up. One of my buddies is a Excavator/Contractor and he influenced the crew he uses to do my barn, with out that my barn probably wouldn't be up now.
If you want to put a little time in and run the project you'll save a lot of money vs having a contractor do a turn key. My buddy and I did all my site work and footings. Then the roughing crew put it up and I had a concrete guy do floors. As close as I can figure I'm at <$20 sqft, that's with 6" concrete, pex in the concrete, 2" foam under the floor and on the outside of the footings.
If you guys are going to build in this area be sure to take advantage of Menards 11% sales, you will get a 11% gift card back and that can really help out, also you can get a 10% Lowes coupon from Mycheapcoupons.com, Menards will also honor that coupon for a 21% savings. I've done it plenty of times.

I have a guy out of Ypsilanti that I will be using most likely and I'm in the holly area. Does start to finish and good work from what I have seen and heard. Working right now with him on my plans for a 40x80 with 12 wife lean to. I can post his info tomorrow when I get back into the country.

I was just talking with my CPA today, and he was showing me a building he had built by Byrum. I'll be giving them a call, and I'll look up C&S as well.

Thanks for the leads!

Not a problem, Charles. I went to school with Jim Byrum, he's a stand up guy. I've never been in one of his shops but he sure puts up a lot of good looking ones around me.
I've only met Stan a few times but the shop he built for my cousin was one of the most square & true shops I've seen. He was fast, professional and took great pride in ensuring all work surpassed his expectations. I just got the feeling he built everything as if it were for himself.

I'm reviving an old thread because I'm looking for any updates on recommendations or new info on builders in the SE Michigan area. Located between Flint and Detroit.
I heard that it's tough right now to even find anyone due to all the construction going on.
(True/False?)
Looking to have a 30x40x14 with lean-to's on each side put up this summer.
Thanks

We have 2 acres in Hartland, but where the 60x40 polebarn I wanted would go presents a challenge with our topography...and consequently accounts for about 30% of the cost of the entire building I wanted to build. After potentially refinancing the house, I still couldn't swing it, so the project was put on hold until daycare expenses cease. That said...out of the 6 or so people that actually came out (from the 10 or so I contacted), looked at my land, and gave me a realistic quote...Jeremy Burton was the only one willing to not only work with me on price... but follow up after a few months to see how things were going with my financial plans. After I cut out a couple luxuries, he got the price down to just above where we could afford, (a steal actually), and far less than other builders' quotes, even with dealing with our goofy land. I have decided to use him when finances allow. He seemed to be the most honest of all the contractors I contacted, he asked what I wanted, and I told him. No up-sell, no BS - as well as the most willing person to figure out the best price for me. Unfortunately, I couldn't go ahead with the project at the time. Give the guy a call. Jeremy 1-517-672-1752 mention my name: Kevin Schoening from Hartland.

I am in the process of starting my build in Brighton. Peter Young Pole Barns was the best choice for me. I have no affiliation with him or his company, but I called several companies/contractors, but his references and local examples convinced me. It seems he has several examples to go see in our area. His pricing is spot on as well.
