My wifes B'day is coming up next month, and I'd like to get her a good leaf blower for doing the garage, sidewalks and porches. Don't want a large one, but a dependable one to replace the small corded one that she is using now.

I have one of these Dewalt DCE100B Lithium-Ion Cordless Shop Blower. It was designed to cleanup construction sites. It does a good job on the deck, sidewalk etc. but I would not want to use it as a leaf blower in the yard. I also have several dewalt tools that use the same batteries.

If you're into the Makita Battery line, this is a steal at $103. (Bare Tool Only). The $319 kit is actually a pretty good deal also because it comes with (4) 5 ah batteries and the charger

Ryobi makes a few different ones using their 18V LIon batteries. I have seen them in my local Home Depot store. One is smaller, lighter weight and less expensive, but is also not as powerful as the bigger one, which cost more.

Either one would be good for light duty things like blowing leaves and stuff off of the sidewalk, or deck/patio as well as just general blowing **** off the porch or out of the garage/shed.

I have the Ryobi 18v leaf blower (P2108).
It does minor leaf blowing. 30 min of use with 4ah battery.
If you have a big drive way/yard with lots leaves, you want to avoid this one.

I have a B&D that is basically the base 20V model. Is barely OK for light dry stuff. They have other models that use the same battery but are more powerful. I'd first look at what battery powered tools that you currently have and work from there.

If you happen to be in the Milwaukee M18 eco-system, the blower is $159 without a battery or charger. It works very well.

I have that one as well....I got it when HD was having their sale...but 2 4ah batteries and you get a free tool.

I use the dog **** out of it. It's a lot quieter than my corded one....not as much output as the corded one...but it's perfect in the garage. I can blow out the saw dust without knocking **** over.

Works fine with blowing off a wet car....and does with with dirt and leaves.

I have the same 20 volt blower. It travels in my truck, I can barely blow dust and wood splinters from a 53 foot trailer on a single charge.

Probably one to stay away from

I got my X2 blower kit with two batteries, rapid charger and a free grinder. Also got it for 20% off so it came in just over $250.

I might have to pick up a second from Amazon. It is the most used of all my X2 yard tools.

X2 on the Ryobi 2180. (if you're already invested in the Ryobi 18V platform)
Very light, cordless is great. Won't be too heavy for her to carry, no exhaust to breathe, and no cord to drag around.

I use mine like DDawg, perfect for blowing out the shop without knocking everything over. A little light duty for a big yard, but I have a Stihl Combi blower for that.

She has a corded unit that she uses in the garage, etc., and cords are a PIA. This isn't her only present, so don't get your ******* in an uproar.

I've got a Stihl backpack blower for the yard and driveway, and it will blow away everything in the garage if I use it in there.

The Ryobi one people have mentioned is a really nice blower. I bought my mother in law one this summer. It has a variable speed trigger so it'll blow a puff of air, full power, or anything in between. Lightweight and has really good power for the size and weight. My MIL is 79 and handles it with ease.

I would get this as an agile, manageable one. If you need more umph get the 60v DeWalt.

Are you already invested in any particular battery for your tools? If so, see what leaf blower they sell for your battery. I’m fully invested in tools that use the Dewalt 20v battery so I bought my wife the dewalt dcbl720p1 leaf blower. I was more interested in the extra 5AH battery that came with it.

We actually wound up keeping it in the house. It comes in really handy when one of the dogs loses their ball under the couch. We used to get on our hands and knees to fish it out with a yardstick but now we just blow the ball out with the leaf blower.

^^That Dewalt looks promising. I've got a 20v drill/charger in the garage already, if she needs another battery. Thanks guys, and keep them coming.

If I got my wife a leaf blower for her birthday, the first thing I would see is the leaf blower sailing towards my head.

Yes, it's the same one I have, and nice. Regularly on sale w/ 5ah battery, charger for $150. However, the tool shop blower is good and lighter/cheaper/easier to handle.

This forum never ceases to amaze me....

That said - have you ever used the compact blowers from Milwaukee, dewalt, makita? They are all the EXACT same model. Even HF is selling one under the Hercules brand. Its very small, very light, and is completely capable of blowing off sidewalks and blowing out a garage. If you arent trying to blow around wet leaves on the lawn - theres probably no reason to buy another blower meant to do that.

Yea it might take a few more seconds to do it, but its also 1/4 the size and weight - but still like 100 - 120 CFM.

Video demo of the compact blower, I’m sure theres a million others -

What’s interesting - is if i block the m18 full sized leaf blower at the nozzle with my hand, theres like no air pressure built up at the nozzle - but there is on the small one.. i picture Tim Allen saying this is what a man would use to dust the house..

Milwaukee and Makita also make cordless backpack vacuums if you really wanna charm her..

Another vote for the Ryobi 2180:

https://www.homedepot.com/p/RYOBI-O...-Battery-and-Charger-Included-P2180/206451819

There's at tool-only option as well, if you've already got batteries.

I love mine. I've got an older blue Ryobi blower (blue version of this: https://www.homedepot.com/p/RYOBI-O...Leaf-Blower-Sweeper-Tool-Only-P2105/202556447) that is kind of anemic. It did what I needed it to do, just took forever.

The new (to me) one was just phenomenal. Absolutely love the thing. Makes short work of wet leaves in my driveway and on my gravel pad out back.

Is everyone ignoring that he just said he wants to buy his wife a leaf blower for her birthday? So she can clean.... for her birthday... ???

so what's the problem....lol

I think subconsciously he wants a *******.

back on topic. I got the Dewalt DCB720 kit with the 5AH battery and charger along with and extra 5AH for 199 from homedepot. I've seen this a couple of times. If you're not in a rush and her birthday is a while away I'd wait for this offer.

On the topic of the Ryobi 18v stuff......

ALL of my cordless tools are Ryobi. They have served me well. The only cordless tool I think could stand some significant improvement is the right angle drill. It needs variable speed...and gets really hot with a lot of use. But I have drilled a **** load of holes in studs while doing my 2-story addition.

On a related note....I just bought the Ryobi cordless lawn mower. It uses 2 18v batteries. I suspect it's really a 36v motor with the batteries in series. I love the thing. It's small (16" wide), but light and easy to use....not to mention quiet.

I like it enough that I fired my gardener and now do all my own lawn work....my boys will be getting some OJT this weekend on the tools.

$103 is a steal for that blower. $319 is too - you basically buy the batteries and get the blower free.

I've got one of them and it is fantastic. Blows as well as my BG86 gas blower. Not quite as ergonomic, but no vibration, less noise, easier to use.
