I bought a Klien 12" adjustable wrench today. Found out it has the wrong adjusting screw in it as it wouldn't turn. I just grabbed it with some other wrenches and didn't check it out.

The good news is I have another 12" Klien adjustable wrench and was able to take that ones adjusting screw out and measure it. The screw measures .770 long, .675 dia., with a .220 hole in it. The thread pitch is 4 1/2"tpi.

Does anyone have such a nut or know where to get one?

Thanks, John

I would call Klein's customer service. I know I've had a crescent or two that I lost the same exact screw you're talking about and they furnished me one ......free of charge.

I called Klien and they do not have replacement parts anymore for the adjustable wrenches. I have a crescent 12" and I pulled the adjusting screw from it and it is the exact same thing so...........I called apex tools and no luck there either.

Sooooo................anyone have a adjusting nut the size I need in their parts bin?

I just inherited 12" Proto adjustable that is missing the adjustment and shaft screw that goes with it. The wrench is in good shape and it would be a shame to toss it for such a simple fix. I guess I should contact Proto and see what they say.

There's an industrial supply house near me that supplies rebuild kits for adjustable wrenches. If you're interested in me having a look next time I'm out that way, PM me.

Or anyone else, for that matter. They have complete kits for all the major industrial brands (Armstrong, Proto, Williams).

Thank you jmm. I'm kind of weird in that I feel guilty putting someone out, having to travel to get me a part. I appreciate it though. I might take you up on it, but before I have you go anywhere, I will try Granger. Hopefully they will have it. If not, that would be very kind of you to pick one up for me and pop it in the mail. After you receive payment from me of course.

Back about 40-45 years ago I remember going to the hardware store and buying some parts for a couple of Crescent wrenches I had/have. The store had one of those parts boxes with a flip-up lid and dividers that contained various wrench parts in multiple sizes. Just like those special fastener boxes they have today.

Perhaps if you went to a hardware and snooped around you might find such a box. And, now that I'm thinking about it, the next time I'm in the large, long-time Ace Hardware down the road from me, I'm gonna see if they still have something like this.

Good luck.
