I am starting the research process for a dust extractor for my track saw. Still wading through all of the options.

I plan to run it through a separator. I don't have the vertical space for a Dust Deputy or something like the Oneida AXD000009.

I have room for something around 30" tall. I could stretch that some if there was a compelling performance reason to do so.

Does anyone have a stock or DIY separator that's in that height range that they're happy with? Are you getting satisfactory results without a variable speed extractor?

BTW, if anyone has input on extractor features they think are necessary or couldn't live without I'd be curious to hear them. I thought shopping for one would be fairly straight forward but my head is starting to spin.

My track saw is a Makita but is not AWS equipped. The only AWS tool I could see upgrading to would be one of their miter saws or possibly a hand sander if they release one. I generally use both of those tools outdoors, however. With my track saw I'm finding that I like to do both my layout work and cutting under the controlled lighting of my garage.

Im not totally sure I understand your constraints or wants, but luckily woodworkers will chime in no matter:]

I have been looking into a low profile separator extractor combo for some time now. What has been looking like a promising combo is using the Ridgid WD4070 4g/5hp shorty vac, with a Dust Deputy or similar. It would be near 30"..... with mods.

Pair that with the Fast Cap remote switch and you have a very compact Auto On dust collector w/ cyclone.

https://www.fastcap.com/product/remote-control-vacuum

Anyways, I do digress, I was lucky enough to get the FLEX auto filter auto start vac for <$200. Im still testing it, but so far its been good (but I still have my Ridgid and drawings for as mentioned setup).

Keep us posted!

So you have 30" height of an extractor W/separator on top of the vac? Or 30 inches setting besides the vac.

If on top it ain't going to happen, cyclones have a specific height to diameter ratio(and dust deputy is actually at the low end of the number) to function correctly.

You can not have your cake and eat it to!

Sorry for the confusion. I think the time from when I started writing the post to when I posted it was nearly two hours. Kept having to walk away from the computer to help my boys with their at home schoolwork. Hard to keep a steady train of thought.

I have room for the vac and the separator to sit side by side. I do not need the vac and separator to sit on top of each other. In fact I'd prefer them side by side even if they could be stacked at 30".

I seem to have plenty of options for extractors that will fit under my height restrictions. But some of the better reviewed separators seem to be taller.

So I need a separator around 30" tall.

For reference my FLEX VCE 44 (12 gallon) is 25" tall. Bosch and others should all be under 30" I bet.

I'm going to stop posting until my dad-teacher duties are done for the day, lol. I just edited my above post to say separator instead of extractor.

Are you using a separator witj your Flex?

I also was lucky enough to get in on the Flex deal and also have limited space. Originally I planned on getting the dust deputy, but am questioning the need after using the felt bags for the extractor. I built a cabinet with 24 shelves using table saw, track saw, RO sander, and router going through 1.25 bags. Filters look brand new on the Flex. Not sure how much you’re planning on cutting but food for thought. One option would be to use a short bucket instead of the 5 gallon to catch the dust from the cyclonic collector.

The Dust Deputy is the way to go. It works and it works amazingly well. The high end vacs are great but the Dust Deputy makes them unnecessary. Simply use a W. L. Gore Goretex Cleanstream filter in a Shop Vac and the deal is done. I filled up the can of the Dust Deputy with MDF dust (It doesn't get any worse than that) and the cheap Shop Vac was still highly effective. A quick squirt down with a hose on the Gore filter, let it dry in the Phoenix sun (took about three minutes at 115F) reinstall and good to go for another five gallons of MDF dust.

Is there any reason that *most* sawdust couldn't just be ejected out of a shop? I live out in the sticks, not in a neighborhood. Big field right next to my shop where I could blow the saw dust out.

Any reason this wouldn't work?

There are cheaper alternatives to the dust deputy. I have one of the under $20 Chinesium ones off of Amazon and it works great with my blast cabinet.

Make up air in a conditioned shop would be the main concern for me if I were doing as much woodworking as I used to.

This project has been put on hold for now. We have been living in our cabin & just this week had an offer accepted on a house a mile from work.

However, I did build a mock up of an overhead dust collector for the track saw. Both the vac hose & the saw cord are overhead which really helps a lot.

Not sure where I'll put the DC at the new house. I think a more refined version of the mock up I have now will work but we'll see.
