Need a fastener

I took a rear window for my thunderbird so I could paint the whole things inside and out. The case was spot welded together on the sides, Drilled all the spotwelds. I would like to put rivets in but there is a clearence issue. I don't know much about specialty rivits so searching google didnt help me much. Here is pictures of the space where a rivet needs to be.

So anyone know where I could find a rivit that would basically take no space on the backside?

You will probably need to use what are called "tinners rivets".

I got a whole lot of free rivetes so what I do is putt the center nail and grind the rivet to the desires length and reinsert the nial and rivet away. shoul be little to no excess Ed ke6bnl

Why not reweld?

x's 2 on the reweld. You can do your own "spot weld" if you will drill through the top layer, say 1/4". Then lay a weld around the edges of that hole to the back plate. It will take up zero space on the back side, and you can grind down the extra weld on the top so it will look clean

I don't want to weld because I don't want rust. I think I will try the remove nail, grind down rivet, reinsert nail thing.

You could always use a weld through primer.....I think from an integrity standpoint, welding will be the ideal manner to complete your part. Rivets and such allow flexing at the joint which will eventually cause it to fail.....

How old is the car? How long do you expect it to last?

I bet at some point in the not too distant future, obtaining gasoline to operate it will become a problem before rust in the window channels...
