I have three favorites in the toolbox: Snap-on hard handle flex head, SK chrome fine tooth and a Craftsman RHFT.

I would go with Gearwrench rotoratchet, or their 60th tooth ratchet.
The Armstrong is even a better choise

In 1/4 drive I would say anything Gearwrench. Great ratchet very little money. The comfort grip as it's a little long but the steel handle is about right. I actually find about anything works well in 1/4 drive.

I'm with Rickster on these. I have these and they are great. I am also a fan of the Proto Big Dawgs. For the money, though, the Craftsman RHFT and SK are hard to beat.

i'm gonna be honest i love 1/4" drive roto ratchets, but anything bigger than that, i don't care for the roto ratchets. I have the full HF set and i don't like them pivoting on nuts/bolts i need to torque down more.

Depends really on how much you want to spend. If you have a local flea market, you should be able to pick up a good quality, gently used 1/4 ratchet for around $5-$10.

Williams M-52EHF 7" flex head. Old School Snap on quality for $28. They also have the non flex USA versions too.

I like my S-O TL72. I picked up a TX72 a couple days ago, I like it too (locking flex-head hard handle, if you've not spent too much time looking at a S-O catalog.) For a shorter ratchet they now only have the T72, the T936 is discontinued. The T936 had a smaller head, if clearance is an issue, but is only 36 teeth. I find I use my TL72 a lot more than my T936. However, they do make the T936FOD still, which is basically the same as a T936, except they rivet the cover plate on.

All of the ratchets I mentioned are priced from about $60 to $90 new.

I'm currently selling this one on eBay for $16 shipped. I could do a little better for a GJ'er, though. But it isn't the fine tooth that others have been talking about.

I also have a SK 1/4" fine tooth that I would be willing to part with for not too much money. I'm out of town for the weekend, but send me a PM if you're interested.

snap on > all with ratchets I second the THNF72

+1

You cant go wrong with the snap-on ratchets, if the truck price scares you just get one off ebay. The T72 is a great ratchet even if it is missing the USA stamp, I would not let that get in the way of buying one though.

Not enough to make an informed decision but I know enough about ratchets to tell you to keep it simple and solid. The thin profile Craftsman 60 tooth is pretty nice and 25 dollars. I'm not a fan of the flat panel(13 dollars) Craftsman ratchets but in 1/4 they are fine and cheap. The Craftsman pro for 23 dollars Try not to over think it. Even a 15 dollar Duralast will do the trick. I would pick the Craftsman Thin profile of all these because of it being 60 tooth which I find handy in 1/4 drive. It's a very nice ratchet as well

I have been quite curious about the similarities between that ratchet and the gearwrench mrholeshot posted and I own in both 3/8 and 1/4. I took apart mine and then a solid chrome handle snapon version at work and the only difference i found is the selector on the snapon is plastic unlike the metal one on the gearwrench and the pawl is actually 3 pieces stacked togeather for some reason instead of a solid pawl as on the gearwrench.

And I just received the 1/4" RHFT I purchased from you. it was as described, shipped lightning fast, and packaged in the safe and secure manner discussed here many times. Thx.

I just picked up the Williams 1/4 flex, very nice little ratchet, after that I would say my Craftsman RHFT.

Wow, surprised nobody recommended the Matco 88 1/4 ratchet. I have the long handle chrome one and it's the good to ratchet in my box now.

I use the long gearwrench flex 1/4" daily and love it. It has a comfort grip and so far has taken some serious torque. Before that I was using the Duralast flex head, and it is a very good ratchet. It is a little shorter and has a regular grip. Both are reasonably priced and are fine tooth. I would recommend them both.

forgot to mention the gearwrench is basically the matco minus 28 teeth, and you can put the matco kit in it.

The gearwrench roto and a cornwell are my go to ratchets. I found that the gearwrench was a little tight out of the box. Had to crack mine open and give it a little grease.

I have this Gearwrench and i don't care for it. The selector switch flips into off on it own. Other than that its very smooth. Would be great for loosening bolts.

also a big fan of Craftsman RHFT and SK fine tooth. I like small in a 1/4" ratchet. I doubt I would have any love for a bulky rotohead. Funny thing is I hate SK ratchets in anything but 1/4". But thats my go-to unit in 1/4. I have had many others, I find the pear heads too bulky and don't like any that are not fine tooth. I have had a few Craftsman thin profiles and they are quite nice as well. Those gearwrench heads look enormus and bulky.

At this time I have a like new kobalt and a new Craftsman (made by stanley round head) I could sell you either one for $9 shipped. Aols have a full set of shallow and deep craftsman sockets that are new if you are needing 1/4" tools.
