Need a good 3 jaw hub puller (I think)

I recently acquired an old delta homecraft drill press ('Arn score thread in process, trying to find the USB cable for my camera) that the PO had thoughtfully modified. He has the pulleys set up with the small diameters on top and the large diameters on bottom. One needs to be flipped, and after searching for parts (drill press is between a '47 and a '52 model), I'd rather not pay for another pulley if I botch this up with a hammer and a pry bar.

Long story short, I need a 3 jaw hub puller, or something similar, to properly remove this pulley from the motor shaft. Any recommendations?

Thanks,

Red

Alot of the Drill presses I have used the pulley is loose and uses a keyway and a set screw. Do these really old drill presses not have a set screw? If not and indeed are a press fit you could try heating the pulley up and gently prying on it before buying a puller most of them are kind of pricey atleast to some people.

Use a bearing splitter, you'll get a more evenly distributed pull on the pulley. With a three jaw puller you'll be loading three small spots and you'll stand a good chance of tweeking the pulley.

Man o man, someone has to explain to me how a bearing splitter works......

I've never used one but have been trying to imagine how they work in my brain from pictures and am having no luck!

You take the bolts out of it and wrap it around the sheave (pulley) you want to pull. Then you put the bolts through the puller and tighten them up so the puller doesn't separate under load. There are threaded holes in the sides of the separator that you can use with all thread and a hamonic balancer puller to make your pull or else you can hook a regular two jaw puller on the sides of the separator.

I found this through Google,
