Hey guys, thought I would ask the gurus here...anyone have any brilliant ideas for helmet storage? I have about 7 helmets that I use. Couple are the wifeys, couple dirt, couple street, and so on. Right now they are sitting on one of my storage shelves and taking up a lot of space. I wonder if anyone has come up with a great idea for storing them?

TIA!

Are you wanting them stored in plain sight? If I had a handfull of attractive helmets I would build a bracket that mounts on the wall that you could hang them from.

I like having my helmet, gloves, shoes, etc. on open wire shelves so they can air out. If you have enough depth for more than one than wire drawers like Elfa might work, especially if they're not full-face. 30% off right now.

Hmm, thats not a bad idea. 3 are full face, 4 are dirt full faced. They are all nice $450-900 helmets so I definitely dont mind "displaying" them. Maybe a pull out Elfa shelf or something. Thanks for the idea!

I am interested in helmet storage ideas as well. The wire shelf is a good idea but my only concern is bugs. I hate bugs and am kinda paranoid of the creepy crawlies wiggling around in my helmet as I am driving down the road. I have been keeping them on a shelf but either in those mesh bags that they are sold in or I have been stuffing moth balls in them if they don't have a bag. Problem with that method is that I smell like my grandmother's house for the rest of the day if I go out for a ride...

Im with you on that one. Right now I keep mine in plastic containers but thats not goo for air . I think something with mesh surround sounds like a good idea. Any materials meet the criteria of bug / spider barrier but displays well too?

Another vote for wire shelves. Ours are in the laundry room where we strip off our snowmobiling gear and hang it up to dry. Gloves, gear, lids, etc dry really fast and being in the house spiders and critters aren't an issue.

If you go with the wire shelf, you can just bag your helmet and tie down the opening to avoid bugs with the provide helmet bags. And since they are breathable. You do not have to worry about nasty fungus and mole growing.

I have couple of helmut racks set up in my basement, I have about 8 helmets between the wifey and me. And each rack holds 2 helmets, and we hand our riding gear under them. Not sure if you get them in the US, but each rack was about 30 dollars when on sale with discount coupons. And You can put about 4 riding suits on each rack and 2 pairs of gloves.

Man I REALLY like that. Going to be in Germany next week, maybe I can bring a few back haha. Know of any brick and mortar type places that have these or only online?

Louis is a brick and mortar store, they are in almost every major city in germany. It is different here in germany. Louis, Polo, and Hein Gericke are motorcyle gear and supply stores. As there are way more riders in Europe then in the US with bikes and scooter. The brick and mortar stores do allot of business.

go to the link I post, and put in the city you will be at. Some cites have 2 store.

by the way, get the tax free paperwork at the store. That way you get 10% back at the airport on the VAT you paid for items you brought. They can give you cash or credit you CC once you get the custom aka zoll stamps.

also if you do go to louis, they carry the wera black and green bottle opener for 5 euros. It is a pretty nice novelty to have.

I had tried those racks, only problem is if you load them with thick leather jackets and suits or winter weight textiles. The rack does not hold up that well over time.

Ours hang on the big rubber coated hooks in our storage/laundry room during riding season. For winter we put they on a high shelf in a closet. Bugs don't like winter around here.

Here's mine. I found an old office storage cabinet on craigslist for $20. Sanded what rust there was off, gave it a rattle-can red and black paintjob and bolted some small casters to the bottom. Didn't like the latch mechanism the cabinet came with so, since I didn't have any need to lock it, I just removed it and glued some small magnets to the inside of the doors...I like the way they close that way and just add more/less magnets to adjust closing pull.
Anybody know where I can find some yellow helmets?
Pictures are iphone and color is way off. Cabinet is rustoleum safety red.

If you're interested in displaying them, there's the Helmet Pit:

http://www.mdcmotoring.com/

I don't own one but it looks like it would work pretty well. I've seen ads for similar products that hook on the tops of doors and hold the helmet the same way.
