Need a good welding blanket

I'm looking for a good welding blanket to help cover the front fenders of my truck as I need to do some welding on the front bumper.

I look on Amazon and some of the ones their show holes through these welding blankets from a little MIG splatter. I definitely don't want that.

Anyone have any recommendations of one about 6'x4' in size?
Thanks.

I'm looking for a good one too. I had the HF one and it didn't hold up for long when I used it while stick welding. It might be good for a few uses if you're mig welding. I wouldn't bet that it would totally protect the paint on the bumpers though.

Yeah, I'm hoping to find one that doesn't get holes burned in it from slag or sparks. Just want to keep the paint good under the blanket.

I am not just saying this to be a HF basher, but, stay away from the blankets at HF.
I bought 2 last year to protect the interior while doing cab corners on a Silverado.
Even light MIG spatter burned holes in it.

I don't know a manufacturer of good ones but I do know I have no use for the ones at HF.

The HF ones seem to have been designed to hold off sparks while the blanket is vertical; the sparks hit and then fall, rather than the old (now forbidden) asbestos ones that would stop and defeat falling sparks directly on top of the blanket.

I was shocked at how easily the HF blanket burned through. Agreed - use as a curtain, or vertically, but not for up-close work. They are also heavy and slippery, and slide off of every automotive surface you set them on.

Do they make a welding blanket that is for horizontal use ?
I remember seeing disclamers on that little instruction sheet/tag from that blanket... I Had 3 no issue so far on intended use.

Duckface that is a good idea.... wetting the blanket.

How about some leather stock?
Perhaps an old leather coat or how about you strip the leather off a free leather couch found on CL
what does lower quality leather sheeting cost?

Well to be a little more clear, I'll be welding up an off road bumper on my truck. I will open the hood while working on it and wanted to also have something to cover the fenders.

It sounds like if I find a decent blanket, to make sure I hang it vertically over the fender and it should work better. I could use some spring clamps to hold it to the open hood or something pretty easily.

The maintenance guy where I used to work at had a canvas tarp from TSC that he used a few times as a welding blanket to cover a piece of equipment he would be welding on or beside. It had to be a rather large welding blanket or several smaller blankets to cover everything he needed to cover. It worked fairly well several times then started getting worn from burn throughs. After it got worn enough to change it out he was told by a outside service tech that was working on something else in the building that he had done similar but misted it down with a spray bottle or bean sprayer till it gets damp. Only problem with that was he had to hang it up afterwards till it dried before he could fold it up. The canvas tarps at TSC are not cheap and may be higher than a actual blanket that would cover the size you need it to.

I just googled and found this Tillman Welding Blanket - Thermofelt 615 at Cyberweld. The 3'x3' is about $23 and the 6'x6' is $71 so not too expensive. It looks like it should be better than fiberglass cloth like the HF ones. All the reviews seem good, but a lot of them are using it to cover grills/heaters/smokers for insulation.
