Need a guide

Hey Guys,

I want to add on to my existing garage and if I get the project together soon enough, I'll start this fall.

I'm looking for guidance on getting this project rolling. I'm currently stuck with no concept of what or how to add to the existing building. I would like to post a few photos of the structure as is and lot dimensions and see what you think may work.

I'd really like to see that this forum was all I every needed to pull this project off.

Also, I would like to do as much of the work myself as I can.

Two suggestions for everybody help you.

Take pictures from all sides, which you already mention.

Edit your CP and put a general location to your profile. It'll further help your fellow members give you the best advice for your location.

As a quick suggestion, I'd consider running the new roof line with the ridge perpendicular to the current roof line.

There are things I need to decide on that would effect the design.
As for instance, having a second floor on the new or both structures.
Also, I would like an area that is high enough to operate a lift.

Second floor on both would require raising roof on existing.

I also need to tie the new foundation into the old somehow.

In order to raise the roof for a second story on the old structure, the foundation and wall must be able to accommodate the added weight.

The second food on the original structure isn't that important.

I need to get my proper surveyed. It is a simple square, just need to have markers located and lines shot. Anyone have experience hiring these services?

I got my first proposal for the survey, it came in at $2400.
This included boundary markers and professional drawings for submittal
to the town.

Waiting on two others, what are your thoughts?
