I'm in need of a very heavy duty bar clamp set. I currently own a pair of hobart Heavy duty 16" clamps, 770553. But they just arent up to the task. The thin spindle diameter makes it difficult to get enough leverage to do the jobs I need it to. The most difficult task I'll be putting them up to is leaf springs. I dissasemble/rebuild and add leaf springs at work, and Im using bar clamps to compress them down. I need at least a 16" bar to reasonably do the job. Please give a purchase source for a reasonable price for any suggestions. Thanks.

Well as far as I know bar clamps are intended for wood working so you are probably going to have a hard time finding heavy duty bar clamps with a large spindle capable of compress spring loads and not contorting with the unusual geometery.

What about some f style of j style welding clamps

I only know of bar clamps for woodworking, the length will not be any problem and you can pick up a set of 3/4" jorgensen pipe clamps for about $12.05 from Harry J. Epstein Co. or any Big Box store.

Jorgensen does make an all steel (I Clamp) in 24", 48" or 72" incn model in an all steel bar stock. Shipping will set you back some money.

If you use 3/4 pipe, get schedule 80 black pipe. It will not deflect under load like the standard schedule 40 or galvanized does. Stronghand makes some very large welding clamps that might be what you are looking for.

Guess I wasnt specific enough. Im not exactly familiar with clamp terms beyond a c-clamp. The style I own is an F Clamp. Another guy in the shop has a better pair of what I believe are also F clamps that do the job rather well, but no markings that I can find to identify them. So Im looking for a set of F clamps, or really any similar style that will do the job. If you have personal experience with something that could handle the job, please help me out with a brand/style/part number. Thanks

I like the bessy f style clamps with the morph pads, for most uses the 2.6klbs will work, but they make them in HD?? 4.8Klbs and I think XHD ?? 9.6Klbs clamping force too.
