Daily driver/Offroad adventure vehicle is a 4.0L Xterra. Silly me left the seat warmer plugged into a constant power outlet and came outside this morning to -6F temps and flat battery (Optima Yellowtop, ~900 CA).

Luckily co-worker drives right by in the morning, but got thinking what happens when I'm flat dead in the woods 5 miles from cell service? I should really get a jump pack!

What the beast out there? I like the small size of the Lithium packs, but are they really cut out for use as an emergency backup/jump?

Jnc 660

who makes the best boost pac for jump starting cars.

Jim

the jump-n-carry 660 is pretty much the industry standard. Go to any large auto auction and you'll see tons of these everywhere. These are the best i've ever used, personally. They make larger units too but the jnc 660 is pretty bad *** by itself.

I got a used HF one cheap years ago and took out the dying China battery and replaced it with a new sealed lead-acid battery from "batteries + bulbs". Now I know i have a good quality battery in a functional case. Been getting my wife out of jams over the years when a kid leaves a light on or something stupid like that.

I have the JNC660 and it works great but my only complaint is there is no off switch so I'm always worried about it bouncing around while off-roading and the terminals hitting on something metal.

The answer is YES ! The problem is the market is getting flooded with cheap, poor quality ones.

A true skeptic reviewed the Rockford Pocket Power Jump Starter and gave it a thumbs up. Watch at the 14 minute mark where he starts a fork lift with a near dead battery.

About $90 on Amazon.

That's a fairly convincing video, but personally I just can't bring myself to rely on Lithium Ion for the long term, cold weather, multiple starts, day after day performance that I can expect from my JNC.
