I bought an older Craftsman wood lathe and it is missing the center for the tail stock. How does one figure out the size so I can order one?
Here is a couple of pictures that I strated with, I cleaned up the bed rails and got the motor and pulleys all lubed and cleaned up.

Any help would be awesome.
Thank you.

Probably a #1 or #2 Morse taper, it does appear to be tapered, Correct?
My Oliver was missing the centers, and I was able to buy it right at sears. (It was a # 2)
Might want to sign up at this forum ,

Or one called OWWM. (Old Wood Working Machines)
I'd bet someone at either of those groups has that lathe.
Is there a center in the headstock spindle?
Not sure how that spindle is, but most you take about a 1/2" dia bar and knock the head stock center out.
Old fireplace pokers with the poker or shovel end removed make good knock out tools.
See if that fits in the tailstock and if so, take it to sears with you.
Thanks,
Tony

I'm 98% certain that lathe takes a #1 morse taper

Mine does, but it's about 10 years newer and badged a Dunlap.

Basically the same lathe though

I go with #1 as well.
I might have 1 or 2 extras in my shop right now. I'll take a look tomorrow.

I've got several different centers - one a dead center, the other live - they are MT#1 though. Confirm what size you need please.

Not mine, but this is what I've got - in MT1 size.

Where would the best place be to order one from? Would any local stores like sears or grainger have one?

Are they MT#1 size? I'll send you the dead center for the cost of shipping (Flat rate - $3). If you want the live center (with ball bearing) - I'll send you both for $10 shipped. I don't think you'll find them anywhere cheaper.

Sorry about not replying, I was out of communication for a couple of weeks. If I haven't offended you, I would like to get your deal.
Please PM me your email and I will send out the money right away by paypal.
Thank you
Greg
