I’ve been designing and building these vises for the past eight months, using a combination of machining and 3D printing. Through this process, I’ve identified several weak points that cannot be 3D printed and must instead be made from solid metal. Since I do not have the equipment to produce these parts, I’m looking for a machinist.

This is not a large job, but I’m willing to pay a fair price for quality work. The photos below show the devices and the specific parts I need. They are small jeweler’s vises, inspired by York and Wilton designs but with my own modifications.

The two parts I need are:

  • A pair of 2-inch jaws (same size as Wilton’s Baby Bullet style)
  • A spindle knob/handle component

To start, I will likely need around 10 of each, with the potential for more in the future. I’m located just north of Chicago, but I’m open to working with someone who can ship the parts. I also have STL CAD files available for the components.

Where are you located? Those aren't particularly complex parts. You could probably find someone pretty close by who could do it.

What jaw material are you looking to use?

-Have you established the tolerances for each part? Material wanted? I'd want a regular 2D drawing for simple parts like these, STL isn't helping in the shop. Even a sketch on notebook paper can work. Send me a PM with dimensions, material, tolerances.

I’m retired now but if these pics and drawings help I’m happy to share. Jaws are 2” wide, did not add that dimension. I made jaws out of A2 and heatreated to 54/56 RC. Good luck.
