My go to 1/4" ratchet is the Craftsman Thin Profile, if I need more leverage (and I often do) I grab the THLF72

Being in Alberta myself I feel your pain as far as tool selection. We dont have Matco or cornwell dealers here (at least I have never seen one). I have had the THLF72 for a little over a year now and its a great little tool. I would buy another.

Look for a used Wright 2400 for a knurled grip, or their current countour handle round head. Very tiny head perfect for small spaces.

I did a review of 1/4" ratchets on my blog

Depends on what you are doing with your ratchet. If you are a pro, probably Snap-On is your safest bet but I would take into consideration which tool trucks service your shop. That is too often overlooked as a factor in buying tools. All the good companies make a pretty decent ratchet.

This is my THL72. It is tough as heck. Never felt like it would even break a sweat, but pretty pricey.

The bang for buck king, in my opinion, is the Gearwrench 81224.
