500-196-30 is my standard. For work that requires 0.0005 instead of 0.005" precision we use a 500-752-20

Both are fantastic

Whatever you decide on make sure you buy them from an authorized dealer. There are fakes out there...

I think im going with the 500-752-20. They are coolant and dust proof. I have alot of high profile machining jobs coming up and i have to be spot on. Thanks guys

Not trying to talk you out of a new caliper, they are the workhorses of industry, but depending on the tolerances you're after, you may be better off with a micrometer.

Guys say stuff like "spot on" and then don't tell us what that really means?

+/- .005", calipers all the way. If .001" and smaller is critical, you really should be using a micrometer.

Im set on good digital micrometers. I always seem to reach for a dial indicator.

Can’t go wrong with the ip67 rated mitutoyos. I have the 6 and 12” set. They both measure gauge blocks dead nuts, and the 6” ones get used a lot. I probably shouldn’t but I trust them down to the thousandth

I've had trouble with Mitutoyo calipers with the electronics crapping out after a couple years. Display goes haywire and has to be repeatedly reset. Now, this is with daily use and alot of it, but still expected more from Mitu.

If you get them on sale I don't think it matters, and it's just a consumable tool in the end. They all are. I've been using Folwer brand lately and they seem ok, but not as nice a feel.
