Need a new drill chuck

My Ryobi DP100 drill press has worked well for quite some time, but the chuck has finally had enough of me. It's lost it's grip, and is frustrating to try to use. The chuck is a "RJ33-13L", and Ryobi no longer stocks a replacement. Does anyone know where I might obtain a replacement? I removed the chuck, but I'm not too knowledgeable about the various tapers or exactly how to measure it to determine just what it is. Any help would be appreciated.

It is most likely a standard Jacobs 33 taper, as found on most drill presses. And 13mm, or 1/2", capacity. The only concern might be if it had a threaded safety collar on it. If not, there are millions of those chucks on Amazon or 'bay.

FYI, there's a pic of the chuck in the SOLD section of the 'bay and you have a plain/simple J33 taper chuck. Just pick one and pound it on.

Thank you. I think I'll check that out. I looked at Amazon, and the South Bend SB1370 was listed....with a 4 to 9 month lead time estimate. Uh, I don't think I want to wait quite that long, although the chuck looked great.

If you don't have a mike or calipers you could use one of these to check your taper. Use rods of known size to set it.

Thank you. I just printed that out. That's a keeper. I'll double check things tomorrow. I do have a good caliper, so I'll take a look.

Enco sells a German made keyed chuck. The brand is Rohm. They are reAlly damn nice for the 35 bucks I paid!

Rohm is just like Jacobs, they manufacture/distribute anything from junk to first quality. So make sure you get one of the quality you desire.

Agreed. It's not a Jacobs Super ball bearing yada yada. But for the machine in question it's worth a look. He'll even for my Clausing, it for the bill. Have always been curious to try an Albrecht.

Todd, I didn't mean to dis your chuck. I was trying to say that Rohm has chucks out there that range from junk to the finest quality, just as Jacobs does. I just happened to get burned on ebay buying one that was a bottom of the line one. I also a top end one that is as good as an Albrecht.

Rohm jt33, I just changed one on a older Delta dp. much improved and around 430.00. I got mine from Enco.

Hit the local swap meet? Jacobs can be picked up for $5 each. Here's about a $30 investment...



The pair in the metal box are for armature turning, the others in the top pic are all 3/4in except the tiny 3/8th one.

I purchased this one from Amazon. $37.50, it fit perfectly, and works great. Yeah, it's Chinese, but seems to be a nice item. Thanks for all the replies.
