What kind of cordless drill, impact wrench or impact driver do you have? You could buy the flashlight that uses the batteries and charger you already have. You can get LED or regular. Just a thought.

That's what I do. I have a DeWalt 20V LED flashlight and it's the best I've ever had.

I prefer a Surefire for when I need to blind someone. And for a light to carry around in the shirt pocket at work I have a Streamlight Stylus Pro. The 48 lumen one.

NEBO Redline. The magnet at the back of it is a lifesaver. Turn it on and stick the magnet to something overhead and you're hands free! Runs on AAA's so no waiting to charge either...

Buy a Stremlight C4 led Stinger with the piggy back charger.2 batteries. Buy once, cry once. Lifetime warranty on the light. Most tool trucks have them or look at Tooltopia or Amazon.

What is your budget?
I found a website that actually turned out to be less than a mile from my current job. www.brightguy.com I have spent many a lunch in there drooling over flashlights. They are not as cheap as Amazon. But the service and being able to go in and play with ANY flash light they sell is awesome. Narrow it down to price, then hit youtube. Watch some reviews and then make your decision. Any rechargeable LED is going to be a good buy.

candlelight forum has alot of info, i am a recovering flashlight junkie. As suggested the streamlight stinger would be a good flashlight in the shop. As also mentioned, the flashlight component to your cordless tools (dewalt, bosch, etc..) is also nice. Both lights are rechargeable which is nice, as CR123 batteries can get expensive.

Surefire flashlights are king and can't go wrong with a pocket size model that will feel like holding a minature sun when you first light the torch.

Pelican M6 is another gem.

Faglight is garbage after you use the new led high output models, only good for head knockin if need be.

I got my MIL one of those Surefire M3 or something, that thing throws a beam of light 300 yds on 6 cr123 batteries - a beast. You got lights that illuminate and throw, and then there is discussion about batteries, etc......

I just bought a couple of aluminum, single AA battery lights for the grandkids to play with. eBay, straight from China for less than $3. They work great in real tight spot (like inside of a car door).

Also just bought the wife a Streamlight PloyPro 4AA LED. Not cheap for a plastic flashlight, but the are very durable and the batteries will last for ever ! Waterproof and the dayglow yellow makes it easy to find.

Cant go wrong with a Maglite in the size of your choice with the LED conversion!

In general, no. (some day I'll get a 2C cell).

Most law enforcement have gone to Streamlight Strion LED. Rechargeable, but it last forever on a charge. Size, weight and power beat Maglite. $$$ !

What is your use for it going to be?

General area lighting?
Patrol/security/LEO?
Maintenance?
Automotive?
Task lighting?

I've got tactical lights for being on patrol, along with the Maglites for the duty belt, patrol vehicle, etc. LED definitely is the winner and Maglites can be converted to LED if you have older ones.

For the garage, I find I prefer to have a bunch of those $3/2 LED mini lights from Harbor Freight. They are cheap, and that allows me to have them stashed everywhere. Several in my truck, one in every tool box in the garage, in the kitchen, in my bedroom, at my computer in the house, etc. I figure a light that is there where and when you need it is worth far more than your $50 speciality light you keep in one specific place that is on the other side of the house.

All have their purposes. Choose what works for your needs.

5.11 TPT R5 is the best flashlight I've ever had. It takes a beating and keeps going. There are YouTube videos of it being run over and taking a couple rounds from a 12 gauge and it still works. I use it for patrol and have dropped it countless times. The battery lasts forever too.

Maglite led flashlights are nice to use with an inspection mirror or around reflective materials. Most law enforcement uber lights are designed to impair the vision of the person they shine at, meaning a whoopsy light to mirror to eye *****.

Try innova.com always like their lights and my snap on set at work (US Army) has this light in it. Seems stout and bright enough for my needs.

I bought a " Nextorch " which is great, very pricey but rechargable and by far the brightest, longest lasting flashlight I know of.

I have a Blue Point 20 LED that I use for general lighting. Cost about $60 and is rechargable. It measures 5"x2 3/4"x1" thick, has a magnetic base & pivots to fit your lighting angle needs.

I use Eneloop batteries, so an SK68 clone for $6 that uses 1 AA is cheaper than a free HF that uses 3x AAA.

Most cheap LED flashlights use common components, so you can buy replacement parts or just cannibalize a few older flashlights.
