I'm like your father in law. No one dares buys me tools.

A good friend gave me something that I really enjoyed.

A book. " A Splintered History of Wood" by Spike Carlsen.
It's an enjoyable read about wood and what our lives might have been without it.

Exactly. His tool collection will make most drool. I did buy him some stupid **** before, but it all ends up in my garage, and then the trash. I am really leaning towards the books and magazine subscriptions. We got him an Ipad a year ago, so he is slowly starting to carry it around everywhere. Hope I can get all those books in a digital format.

I'm an accountant by trade, and I would love to get tools/wood/woodworking magazines for a gift. But that's because it's my hobby, not my job. If someone gave me a new adding machine or a subscription to an IRS periodical for Christmas I wouldn't exactly cut a backflip.

I'd bet he already has a full suite of very expensive tools. Buy him a bottle of bourbon, a box of cigars, a fishing lure or something related to what he does for pleasure, not for work. Preferably something you two can enjoy together.

Festool Tools?

some of the best power tools money can buy, Does he have storage issues? Give him a few systainers and a sortainer, How about a good vacuum?

You didnt give your budget so festool may be well out of it, Personally i would get him a ETS125 $180 and a CT26 vacuum $550, its an incredible sander that blows the pants off any other sander on the market and dust extraction when paired with a festool vacuum is simply jaw dropping http://www.festool.com/EN/Industries/Woodworking/Pages/Overview-Wood.aspx

Oh, so true....

Also very true.....

Get him some pipe clamps (they come without the pipe) and then get him about 4 pieces of 3/4" Gal pipe....2 4', 2 8' and maybe some couplings so he can combine lengths.

So many clamps, I can't even count them. They are all over the place, including my place. He did just that. He has some nice 4'-8'' ones. About 20 are attached to a re-purposed steel coat hanger. Actually it is very nice storage for pipe clamps.

The only two tools he doesn't have from Festool is the vac, drill, impact and the miter saw. He played with all of them at the last show, and said they are retarded for those prices. My favorite is the guide rail saw, and the sander. Love those two.

Lol, yes he does.

I'm sure he knows of Incra...

I highly recommend one of their rules. Very nice and very handy. If doesn't already have them, he should!
