Need a Remote Garage Door Lock

that can be adapted to a Liftmaster chain drive door opener .
The new place in the mountains ( vacation place ) has a garage door that has a manually operated lack .... and I can already see a potential problem here . Lock the door from the inside and then come back several weeks later , forget the door is locked and hit the remote .
On my Liftmaster 3800 , I have the automatic deadbolt that ties in to the operator and love it . Called Liftmaster and they said it couldn`t be adapted to any other series of their lifters/operators .
Anyone know of any aftermarket remote deadbolts that can be adapted/used on multiple openers ? I did a brief search and came up with several , but they were in the $ 200 to 300 range , while the Liftmaster unit is in the $50 range .
Any suggestions , other than don`t hit the remote before unlocking the door ?

Why not use a typical garage door lock-

If the handle is in the lock position- don't hit the remote.
Or save the $34 and just make it a habit. I also used the slide bolt when we would go outta town for vacation- just knew to go through the front door FIRST, when getting in the house.

Maybe you could wire in a switch that the latch bolt depresses when the door is locked.

When the latch bolt touches it, it would break the contact for the opener control. Wouldn't be remote, but at least you wouldn't try to operate the door with it latched...

Unplug the opener or flip the breaker when you lock the door.

Guys ... thanks for the suggestions and disabling the opener is probably the easiest . What I am trying to do is make things easier if the weather is bad ... or if one of my kids uses the place and forgets about the lock .... and of course , kids always listen to everything you say , right ?

It may not be doable , but I was hoping someone here had figured out a way to do it already . I`ll try to find the schematic for my 3800 and see where the deadbolt gets it`s signal from and see if I can adapt that to the other one .

I ran across this the other day, it replaces your existing remote with its own remote, that unlocks the deadbolt then triggers the garage door.

The product in the post above looks like a good solution for you, although it's a bit pricey.

I have a remote-opening gate that uses a magnetic lock to secure it when closed.
The lock is wired to the motor terminals, so when the motor runs, the lock will disengage. It doesn't require any additional remotes and is very simple to add on. Although this exact unit is meant for a swing-style gate, I think a similar mag lock could be adapted for your application. Just food for thought.

If you do disable the opener just add a switch on the wall to make the outlet that the opener plugs into switched to disable it.

All new Liftmaster openers come with a 3 function Wall Console, an operate button, a manual light button, and a lock button. Lock the unit and transmitters will not operate the door!

You will need to go inside to unlock the unit and tour good to go..

I wonder if that has any internal feedback to prevent the GDO from operating in the event that the signal to open the deadbolt was sent but the bolt did not open.

My long term plan is to use a contact switch that the deadbolt touches, which is connected in parallel to the switch on the rail next to the GDO. That way the opener believes that the door is already all the way open, and does nothing. At least that's what happens in theory. I'd seriously test it out before I tried it with a locked bolt. Too easy to do major damage, although I have a well balanced door and a modern opener with the force controls all set to the minimum. I wouldn't even think about trying this on an ancient opener without force controls.

Are you into homebrewing equipment?
A garage sale opener will give you a radio controlled motor and travel limit switches.
You should be able to come up with a way to slip a dead bolt back and forth.
You may need two remotes, but with a little hacking you should be able to do it with one.

I work at Security Snobs but have also used the garage door deadbolt for years without any damage (or mis-fires) on my own garage door. It is a bit pricy but its a really solid product. It has a detector to ensure the door is down prior to engaging the bolt and as for opening it retracts the bolt before sending the signal to the GDO so if there is an issue it will not open. For example (and while definitely not suggested but I just tested to verify) blocking the bolt from retracting causes the signal to never be sent over. I am sure there is a way for it to malfunction completely but it certainly seems fairly robust.
Home brew is certainly a decent option (we do a lot of one off modding for customers ourselves) but the elocksys solution is nicely all in one and quite well tested.
