Need a roll-up door for a small older garage.

We have a seventy-five-year-old small frame single-car garage with the old two-section wooden overhead door, which needs replacing.

I'd like to replace it with a roll-up type door, but the lower-end priced ones I see don't work with openers. The high-end, i.e. Overhead Door, are priced like a bank vault.

What have you used and who do you like?

Why not just put in a "normal" sectional door ? Seems a lot easier.

My roll up door from Janus was just as expensive or more than standard overhead doors. $1900 for a 8x8 wind rated.
They do have electric opener options though.

I special ordered a non standard sized roll up door from Menards. I think Ideal was their supplier. I don’t recall it being particularly expensive.

No idea if it’s compatible with any sort of opener, but it’s easy to operate.

The building was a circa 1941 single car garage built by my wife’s grandfather with materials salvaged from a circa 1880s house that burned down. I’m using it for storage.

This old garage has a non-standard opening size and there's no sectional door which will fit.

I understand that GARAGA doors will ( at least used to) make custom sized doors, and only charge for the next size up , so it's not a huge cost

I got mine from these guys. I don't know if it's normal for roll up doors but it took about 5 mins to install, was slick. Legs pop on, tilt whole thing up, lag or bolt into frame. Hand adjustment on end to tune spring. Can open or shut with one finger. I think they can do any size. I was sent a link for an opener style that works with them, not sure where the email went, been a couple years.

I got one from Menard's for a shed build at my parents house. I'll agree that Ideal is the manufacturer as far as I remember. They come in varying sizes, incrementally IIRC.

I got two of the 650 models. I am not sure on weight but not a lot, two people could move them around pretty easily. Kinda awkward for one person because of the length. The 650s don't seal wind out as good as some of the more expensive ones, I ended up putting some brush type seals around them which worked good. I'm pretty happy with them. And the install was super easy and fast.

I didn't get one yet but was looking at the $150 ish roll up door openers on vevor.com. Also on amazon and other places. The doors are so easy to open and shut I figured it wouldn't need anything heavy duty. My friend has this one on a 10ft roll up door, has worked fine for years.
