Just drill pilot holes for your nails. DuhNow that I put this fancy new house wrap up that's gonna be harder...

That explains about everything in this house...That would have been the tail end of aluminum siding. He was being thrifty...
that plus the depth the nails are driven doesn't allow for the movement the vinyl siding wantspeople have said a siding nailer isn't for vinyl. I assume the head of the nail is too small
Model, and did it come with the tip?
That adapter looks like it would work well. The one I have isn't as niceBostitch RN46-1 with a VSA4 tip kit (sold seperately)
