Hiya-

In my 3rd Garage lol- The door is facing the alley- bunch of thieves in local neighborhood.
Is their a way or ready to buy option for an alert?

A light on the back wall towards house would be good, maybe a BT app added too. An alert away from home.

I've got key-chain remote door fobs, and bump them accidentally-and up she goes!

The solution will depend on your use case. If this door is only occasionally used, I'd be tempted to just unplug the opener or pull the disconnect cord when leaving, along with putting a physical lock in the rail. If it's used frequently, upgrading to a Chamerlain or Liftmaster opener with mobile connectivity would be the better fix.

It will depend on the OP's particular situation, but I have a door that's only occasionally used and I have a short piece of wood that I can wedge in between the top of the door and the underside of one of the roof trusses. It's a cheap and effective way to lock the door closed, and is easy to put it in place or remove from inside the garage, but of course it won't work if you want to be able to open it from outside with your remote.

I used a camera in my garage facing the door, and it shows when it is open and motion or a person is detected.

I used to use an autocloser but it would frequently act up and randomly close the door when I was working in there (it had a override button) so I got annoyed with it and unplugged it.

my openers have a vacation setting. I leave the one on vacation all the time. I simply trip the wall button when I want it open. Mine is a chamberlain.

If you can connect to your home wifi from there an arduino with a microswitch on the door can send you an email.. your cell carrier may have an email gateway to convert an email to a text message...

As others have already said, it depends on the O.P.’s situation. It sounds like this garage is not used very often. He said “third garage”.
I only have one garage (it is attached)
When we go away for more than a day or two, I unplug the opener.
For more security like next to an alley with neighborhood thieves, I suggest a mechanical blockage of the track. One quick method is to fasten a C clamp or two onto the door tracks.

We have this same situation and problem and keep our keychain fobs in a hard case to keep this from happening.

If you want the convenience of coming and going through the door on foot, you might consider a keypad on the outside or a key switch to open the door when you walk up.

If you have a security system, you can also program it to chime every time a door opens and put a sensor on your garage door. (There are special sensors for them.)

That‘s how I set mine up long ago. I use it often. I installed my keypad behind a wooden door that covers the main breaker panel. The wooden door is secured with a barrel bolt.

I use yosmart sensors around the house for a variety of things including water leak detection, temperature and door (reed) sensors. I set an alert if the garage doors are left open longer than a couple of minutes. The alerts are configurable and the yosmart ecosystem works with homeassistant so, if I wanted to, I could program the door to automatically close after a certain time left open. I also have the myq alerts directly from the opener but I've found it to be unreliable and often sending erroneous door left open alerts.

Crazy idea. Get a solar powered bird feeder camera and have the door within range. It will alert you to motion, you can check on it remotely, and best of all, you can watch the birds.

We use bird feeder cameras to watch the birds and my wife enjoys the birds. When placing them, I always set the angle to show parts of the house I want to monitor and it acts like an auxiliary security camera. Just needs to be in range of the home WiFi.

Get rid of them, or vow to never place them in your pocket.
I had the same fobs and the same problem. Stopped to think about it and realized I never really used them.
I've spoken to a few garage door techs and they ALL advise against them as they're too easy to trip.

Search for GARAGE DOOR MONITOR. Choose from the hundreds of options, from cheap to crazy expensive.

I have a ring camera inside each garage facing the door, alert is sent within a couple of seconds. I think the camera is the way to go you get alert plus video & can activate the siren. It's also nice having the motion lights inside, they come on as you open the door.
