I'm looking for a small, portable air compressor for the garage that I will be using with a brad nailer and occasionally for tires on the cars. It seems like the pancake compressor/nailer combo packs are a good deal, but I don't know much about the quality of the nailer you get with it. Bostitch has a combo pack with a brad nailer or the 3 pack of brad nailer, 16 gauge nailer and stapler. HD sells a Dewalt with a brad nailer that looks very nice but it's a little more expensive. Then there is a Porter Cable set that has the 3 tools like the Bostitch, for the same price. I really want something that will perform well and last a long time. Are any of these combo packs worth buying? If so, which one?

Am I better off buying a compressor separately and finding a nice brad nailer? When you read the reviews, they all get good reviews with a few bad reviews thrown in, so it's hard to tell one from another.

I'm close to Lowes, HD, HF and Sears, but no Menards here. Closest one is 2+ hours away.
I was really thinking either the Bostitch or the Dewalt. I would really like getting the extra nailer and stapler for and extra $20. I just wasn't sure about the quality of one over the other. Since you are getting 3 tools and the compressor for $200, are the tools going to fail quickly? If not, then you can't beat that price.

I had a bad experience with a DeWalt Framing nailer. Also, IMO, the Bostitch guns are better quality.

They bundle sets and usually you get a discounted price.

Senco PC1010- best small compressor I've used.
VERY quiet compared to the other options listed above....

Shop around, you can get one for ~110 bucks online, ~150 with a nailer, hose, etc.

I have a Porter Cable set that came with 2 nailers. I have had it for years and used it quite a bit. No complaints.....its been good for me.

Another site worth a look is https://bigskytool.com/air-tools/air-tools-combo-kits.html
I've purchased all Hitachi guns and haven't had issues with them yet (although I'm just a casual user). The staple gun has seen a fair bit of usage and still works great. Not sure how particular you are about the looks of tool but from what I've gotten from them, grade A has a scuff or 2 (used for maybe a day or two and it "quit"). I say "quit" because I've heard some of the grade A units are the weekend type that purchase it, use it a day and return it saying it didn't work or whatever.

Grade C would appear to be on the jobsite for a good amount of time before it had an issue under warranty. Still functional but not great looking. Also, the grade C is hit and miss on the cases.
