Need a small flashlight

Yes it's permanently clipped to the dog leash along with the poop bag dispenser. With the longer days it won't get used much during the summer. Some flashlights aren't designed to be clipped to anything, which adds to the challenge. It'll also get dropped and banged around a lot. Was using the free HF ones. Not bad, but the LEDS or button eventually failed, they fell apart, or the batteries leaked.

I'll try the Coast G20 this year and see how it goes. I also own many flashlights and would like to move to rechargeable types. After researching this and reading the posts, I need to step up my game. Perhaps I'll ask for a new flashlight for Father's Day, to which my lovely wife will likely respond "Don't you already have 10 flashlights?"

Which battery format do you prefer? Most lights that offer a feature to attach to something are going to be in either AA or AAA. Anything larger will likely have a pocket clip rather than a ring.

If you'd like AA or AAA I'd recommend either Eneloop rechargeable or Ikea Ladda (rebranded Eneloops). They are great and get seemingly thousands of charge cycles with minimal capacity loss.

Another option I use as my EDC (In an HDS Systems Rotary) is a 16340. That's a rechargeable equivalent of a CR123. Lights accepting this form factor make for a pretty nice size and shape and they will generally take either cell.

I'd recommend considering a headband light. Battery powered, yes, but the batteries last a long time on the LED bulbs. Plus illuminates your path and keeps both hands free.

I have one of their older types but have had no issues at all with it.

If you like head lamps I offer up Underwater Kenetics for consideration:

It takes 3 AAA batteries. I like replaceable batteries because when the power goes out for a few weeks you will be thankful for your cache of batteries when the rechargeable ones are no longer chargeable!

Oh yeah these are Made in USA!

Have the people recommending a headlamp not considered that there are people who want to walk in whatever the ambient light is? In the country, you might want to look at the stars, in the city there are street lights. No one wants to **** around with a headlamp to pick up the dog ****. It won't be adjusted right, because someone else used it last. The flashligh clipped to the leash solves the problem of making sure you picked it all up in less time than putting hte headlamp on and off would take.

Headlamp?

I have several. Even use them in daylight to see better under something or in dim building, etc.

You know there is an on/off switch on a head lamp. Some have adjustable brightness.

I think it would be more difficult to pick up dog poop while holding a flashlight, leash (with dog attached), and a bag. A headlamp frees up one of those hands.

I don't know why you are so triggered over a headlamp? :ROFLMAO:

I'm in the country and I use a headlamp for this exact task as described all the time. I think having a light clipped to the leash would be almost useless and very frustrating.

We're not here to discuss my thoughts on the application though so we're trying to offer suggestions per the OP's request.

I second the Fenix recommendations, I have 4 fenix lights, the oldest is from 2016 and still gets used the most.

But at $20 its hard to beat the Lumintop Tool. It's a chinese light (as is fenix) but it's made well and well known in the flashlight community. It'll run either AA or rechargeable 14500's. One easy to find tail button is all you need to worry about and it's waterproof.

Another one for Fenix. Great lights, but not cheap. I have them all over the house.

The streamlight 66608 in coyote is 250 lumen about the size of 1.5 (long) aa battery and is rechargable.

The coyote one is the only one that turns on to high position on first click. For some reason, the black one turns onto low on first click so you have to click it twice. That is why I bought the coyote colored one.
Amen. Carry it every day. Going strong for 5 years! I got the coyote for the same feature you mentioned.

I picked up the rechargeable version cheap a few years back.

Used to keep it in the truck plugged in, occasionally in my pocket. I put it through the washer once, other then being a little rough on the outside and requiring a bag of rice to try out it still works flawlessly.
I've washed mine twice. Let it dry overnight. No issues. I took it apart where possible and the o-rings kept the water out.

This^^^
Mine is going on ten years old.
Used at least once usually twice a night for the last four years on dog duty.
Lithium batteries for the win
My Stylus Pro LED (66118) is 7.5 years old and still rocking! EDC'd this before getting the Microstream USB.

Streamlight Microstream USB. $30 on Amazon and it'll last a long time. 250 lumens (I believe) and a hat clip for hands free use.
Love the hat clip!

I have one of these streamlights with me every day. I love it. Small enough to clip in your pocket, or clip to the brim of your hat for hands free operation, but also bright as hell. And rechargable with the same cord I use to charge my phone.
:+1: or 5. Seems a handful of us are in the same boat. My battery life on low is great, but I typically use it on high because its the first click on mine. Life on high is decent but drops like a rock when its discharged. For the sake of the battery, I try to not let it get that low before recharging.

Nebo makes several kinds and size of small flashlights that are rechargeable. I have a couple and like them. I have seen them in several places and know that Ace Hardware carries them.

I could never understand the fascination with a "rechargeable" flashlights. What is wrong with just buying rechargeable batteries and a decent charger. Are people getting this lazy late in life.

Ok you geeks. I should know better than clicking on a flashlight thread. Ended up buying the Streamlight MicroStream. I have a Fenix E01 for EDC and wanted something intermediate sized.

I like leaving flashlights on charger in home and in my truck.

We need a small flashlight that can clip to a dog leash. Main purpose is to illuminate dog **** so we can see to pick it up at night
Tired of feeding batteries into the free HF ones. Ideally it should be rechargeable and small in size.
2 from Menards (Guidesman and Kodiak Litzall) were defective. Avoid these POS brands.
Looked at Amazon and I don't want to pay $30 for no-name chinese. Under $20 would be great. Doesn't need to be over 500 lumens.
Any thoughts?
Trustfire's T10R is doing it for me. Small, snug fit in my palms and bright. The only issue I have is when I use the highest beam setting, it becomes hot to touch, however, doing medium beam will do.

I have about 10 rechargeable flashlights. One has a battery you have to take out and put in a charger. That is a pain in the rear compared to all of the others, which have built in charging ports. I have plenty of other things to do and not enough time to do them as it is. Sometimes I wish I was one of those retired guys with one house and a simple life.

Mag lite classics have cheap LED conversion kits you can get off Amazon. And I pair that with usb-c port rechargeable AA batteries. Set for life.

Or you can buy the expensive 4,200 lumen upgrade for the big D cell version and illuminate your entire backyard/neighbors back yard/neighbor’s neighbor’s backyard.

It has been 7 days and 3 pages. Buy a flashlight already. It took me literally 6 hours to decide which car to buy, and to buy it.
I didn't realize there was a time limit prior to purchase when asking for suggestions and information here. You realize can skip right over the posts you don't have interest in?

While i did suggest the streamlight to fit the criteria earlier in thread i actually use my fenix uc35 the most. It has 5 stages of light output and stays in which ever mode you last left it when you turn it on and off. Has a tail button for on/off and a separate mode button. i like this cause i can keep the light relatively low for poop duty but if i am out walking the dogs and hear or see something in distance i can crank it up to 1k lumes and see what is going on.also has a strobe feature for those dark nights to signal cars when they are down the road so they know you are there.

I'm honestly surprised someone isn' selling a specialized "PooLite" on Amazon, that emit special poo-highlighting photons, integrated nose clip, and designed to dangle from the operator's neck at the optimal angle for complete illumination and elimination of nocturnal PooSmear.

Make it part of a PooKit, also containing special opaque odor-blocking PooBags, insulated PooGloves (because picking up fresh warm dog eggs is beyond gross), PooTongs, a portable PooTainer, and of course the in-ground PooMaster 5000 with triple-stage airlock to receive the bounty.

I'm following this thread. Had one of those Milwaukee flashlights and the battery was absolute trash. Didn't even bother buying a new battery for it.

IMG_2064.jpegI know it’s not rechargeable but I’ve carried one with me for almost two years and while I don’t usually leave it on for long periods of time. I don’t have to replace batteries that often also there 20 bucks
