Need a small, quality led work light.

I'm looking for an inexpensive led work light for under the hood. I'd say between 6"-12" +/- that is cordless and either AA/AAA battery powered or rechargable. I would like something that gives a wide "flood" effect to fill the engine compartment rather than a spot light or beam type effect. I have my headlamp for that. I don't want Harbor Freight, but at the same time can't justify buying a Snap On or Matco for $100-150+. Basically, I would like it to be relatively cheap in $50 range, have a hook of some sort to hang it and a good magnet. Sometimes I find the AA/AAA powered lights work better and last long than a rechargable one. I appreciate your input and advice. Thanks, Glenn

I also have a small Larry pocket light http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00T9XOGFO/?tag=atomicindus08-20. I use it mostly for interior work. I perfer rechargable over battery most of the time because I get tired of changing batteries. The batteries do last for a while with this one and it is a pretty good light for the money. No hook but the pocket clip is magnetic so it will stick to anything a magnet will stick to.

I saw this at Sears the other day and almost popped on it, but decided to do some research first. According to many reviews online, the magnet doesn't work too great, the hook is flimsy, and the battery gets worn out and weak rather quick. But for $20, how great can it be... Any other options?

Mac has a few lights I saw that caught my attention. One is a "Platinum Series 8 LED Hybrid work light. It is rechargable, all aluminum and has flood light side and flash light tip. The second is the "Switchblade" light which slides out of he handle. It is AAA powered, but doesn't have hook or magnet. The third is a hi-vis yellow pocket stick light with a magnetic end, that also runs on AAA batteries. Anyone use any of these and have any feedback?

I bought this silly thing from Wally World and it is one of my best purchases to date. Always thought the headlamps were silly, but using this has changed my mind.

Has spot light and flood light. 200 lumens is bright enough.

I like my sears rechargeable light, it does dim down kinda quick but it's came in handy a lot. Friend of mine has one of the real long style(not sears) that will clamp under the hood and that sucker is nice when your on the side of the road.

Anyone use the Bayco SLR-2134? I would rather buy a light made by a company like them. That's what they do, lights and extension cords, etc. Sears and Craftsman do everything and anything to make a buck. I'm different in the sense that I don't like to spend a lot of money on certain things, but don't want junk either. I'm the guy that buys SK tools. Professional quality, average Joe price. I don't need top of the line, but I want quality stuff that will work each and every time, for any and every job.

This is the only light that has held up for me thus far. Working on the lift they get dropped and hit. Have killed a harbor freight one, a northern tool one, and one of the above bayco walmart ones, because the magnets on them aren't strong enough. I like this light cause it tilts and pivots and the magnet is pretty decent, it is also super bright.

I have two of the bayco model slr 2266c4 lights. 66 leds rechargeable. both spot and flood. work for about 4 hours on a full charge. bought them at walmart ( around 35.00 each ) they work well for me.

I used to say I couldn't justify a snap on light too. But after going through several $40-$60 lights it became easy to justify the $100 for my Snap On. I do use it almost daily though.

I've had one for a couple years now. I bought it for the lumens and the options for direct and side lighting. Plus, regular batteries.

Magnet is great, have bought several for friends and family.

Fwiw - that "nebo big larry" is the absolute best light i have ever bought. It is soooo bright i can't believe such a little light stick can produce that. The all aluminum body is durable, lightweight, and it just looks good. Plus, the magnetic base is strong enough to hold it upside down and sideways or parallel to the ground! Only thing i could say that would improve it is a hook of some sort. But i'm already cooking up a solution for that. I'm telling you. Go on ebay and order one. For $20 you can't go wrong. I'm actually ordering another one as soon as i finish this. Right now...
