Need a spring scale for setting bearing preload?

Doing brakes on my brothers 99 Land Cruiser and need a scale to properly set the bearing preload? Not sure I've ever seen one in an auto parts store. Would they have one or is this something you're supposed to get at the local bait shack?

I didn't bother when I did the front brakes on my FJ40 but his will definitely get more mileage put on it then mine and I want to get it right.

Just go down to your local bait and tackle store and pick up one of their fishing scales. They work just fine.
Or you can go to the local MAOMART and get it.... I prefer the local shop; I get to talk with some old timers about the local fishing holes....

A bait and tackle store would have it, but I recall I found one at the local sporting goods store. Not a rare item.

I though 99 used hats and sealed bearings
the old ones we used to change knucle seals all the time - 8 hour job , messy . I always set the wheel bearings on land cruisers and 4 runners to zero preload with no end play , never had a problem

Do a Grainger search for CHATILLON, or do an internet search for that. That is the company that makes most of the spring scales. Grainger has 100 lb and 50 lb pull scales.

We use them alot at work on aircraft, mostly for control system checkouts.
