Hi there,

I am at a loss when it comes to find a button head or something similar M10 1.0mm pitch bolt.
Is off an older mtb and the only thing I could find was a regular allen head from very far east.
Dug into MC master carr, online, off line shops etc..
Thread needs to go all the way to the head.

Needs to be aluminum or ss, brass etc since its in a corrosive environment.

Visit a machine shop? Maybe they can weld a bolt head onto an Allen screw, etc.
Or, is there room to put flat washer/s or some shim/s under a bolt that is too long for your application?

Have you visited a bike shop? Derailleur bolts are M10, but aren't threaded to the head. What's your bolt for?

The hex socket has compromised the strength of that bolt. If that's a problem, how about using a hex bolt and turning the head down? Or does the head need to fit into a recess?

If it's a derailleur bolt, I'd suggest finding something in aluminum. I always recommend scored aluminum bolts for derailleur dropouts. They shear under impact, protecting both the derailleur and more importantly the frame.

Thread all the way to the head is a little strange, normally that area is relieved as you can't truly get threads all the way to the head.

You may need to have a machine shop build you some custom bolts if it's that critical or specific for what you need.

Any clues on the application? We may be able to give other ideas?

I tried to multi quote but it does not work on my phone.

No, I have not been to a machine shop but I was thinking about to fab one myself.

Been to many bicycle shops, including the mfgr and so on and it was a no go.
The bike industry drops support for older, this is for a 07, which in the bike world seems to be ancient rather quickly.

Most links provided are for M6 ones.
Smaller are easier to find, it gets difficult with M10.
Older bicycle square bottom bracket bolts use that thread
and it is more common with banjo bolts.

I think infinkc might on to something.
That looks promising.

What does that do? Meaning, can it be slightly longer, shorter, cap differences?

I'd think it would be relatively easy to find a socket Hex-Drive screw that works for this, but it wouldn't have the "cap".

The most generic option - search for "button socket cap screw" or "hex socket plug" - either of these might work.

For axles I've had excellent experiences with robertaxleproject.com and maybe they'd be able to help with your bolt even if it's not for an axle.

Yeah, in the bike world, weird things come and go quickly. But cranks and bottom bracket frame threads are pretty standardized. It might make more sense to replace the entire bottom bracket...

Yes, I have the schematics and it is a M10 with a 1.0mm pitch

Specialized is the manufacturer and it is not that uncommon that they have very specific hardware and there is no support or parts availability after a few years.

This is a pivot bolt for one of the rear linkage pivots of the rear suspension.
I was just going through my bolts and noticed that I had some even older bottom bracket bolts which are also M10 1.0mm pitch but regular socket heads which do not work because the bolt sits in a tight recessed spot.

My thoughts.

Acquire a bolt or setscrew with M10 x 1.0

Acquire tap of same.

Make the disk and tap the thread

Screw the stub into it, flush to the end, tig weld or 56% silver braze.

Sacrifice a low-head screw, get the internal hex from that and tig weld to the disk.

Alternative is to use a setscrew but I don't think it can be tig welded fine enough not to bug up the internal hex unless you can stick some above the top plane of the disk and fillet weld.....

Might not look beautiful but you can make it functional...heck make 2 of them and then they will match :D

Post a pic of where it goes?

Seems the head profile wouldn't matter much. Put a washer in that fits the recess and use a button head. Might not look as clean, but the bike shouldn't be for looks anyway.

Motorcycle shop for screws and bolts? There are many special metric hardware pieces all over any Japanese motorcycle. Perhaps the service manager at a local motorcycle shop can provide a bin of hardware to dig through and find something suitable.

I would gave never gyess.

Figured it was a typo for MTD yard equipment.

Been 25+ years since I've run a pedal bike. Became obsolete after getting a driver's license.

The selection is really very little when it comes to a M10 with a 1.0 pitch that is not a socket head and on top of that it has to be corrosion resistant because it is exposed to the elements.
