That is one monster of a welding rod, much bigger than I can imagine having the capability of using.

I generally use 3/32 or 1/8; very rarely 1/16.

Nope, but have run 3/8'' 7018 at just over 500 amps. 500 amp stinger went in the water every rod.

We had one of the rods on our metallurgy lab. They are massive. One my co workers did a job at a different shop where they used a slightly larger rod with two 1000 amp machines. It said it was pretty wild.

Hmm, how big are the electrodes in an electric arc furnace? They got three phase though.......and probably a nuke to supply it......

LOL - those things are wild! I picked one up from ebay to hang on the wall.

I'd love to get my hands on of those as well, for exactly the same reason. You'd probably need similar gear to operate those heavy oxy gauging rods in order to safely weld those. They take about 1000 amps, can you imagine the radiation and splatter :shocking: ?
