Would like to start making fish, flowers, signs and other art from sheet metal, most likely 24 gauge. What would be a good choice in mig welders for the thin stuff? I am guessing I need to stay away from flux core. However, I would prefer120 volt.

Thanks for any help.

Hobart 140. Make life a little easier, use a couple gages heavier. Sheet from appliances is primed, finished, ready to scuff and paint.

Probably going to be some guys stop in tell you to buy once, cry once. Something like a Miller 211 willow you to use 120 or 240.

Once you start in and need to build some stands for your art, you may find having the extra capability handy.

Nothing wrong with a smaller Hobart 140 like Sberry said or a Miller 141.

Personally I'd stick to a blue or tan machine first then a red one in name brand.

I just bought a Harbor Freight Titanium 140. I haven’t used it yet, but I did my research and it received very good reviews. I’d certainly consider it as an option. It does both flux and gas so it should suit your needs.

If you plan to move the welder around at all, consider getting an inverter mig welder instead of the older style transformer style.

Inverter welders are 1/3 the weight.
