need a wrench set, high theft risk environment

Probably chinese, so don't flame, because I don't want to spend $400+ for a high theft risk environment.

Has anyone looked at or used V8 tools? I am needing a pouch with a portable wrench set, that is open end and flare nut end. I really don't want to pay the tool truck cost for thesem and unfortunately I don't find them at Sears.

From what I've seen, V8 tools are some of the "nicer" Taiwanese tools... think Genius or Astro Pneumatic. If it were my $$$, I would chance it on a set.

I'm thinking leave a couple out on a rubber mat and try to run some electrical current through them. Then just wait for someone to grab them... :shocking: :evil:

Go for Regular craftsman wrenches... keep the money in the USA!!!!

If your hell bent on getting some chinese wrenches, get the HF ones. Guys on other boards say they keep them in thier trucks and such for emergency type repairs, and that htey hold up

Craftsman doesn't make them, that is the whole point, HF also doesn't make/carry them. I have only seen Snaps, Mac, and V8 tools.

I thought that I've seen them by Sunex, too.... Can't remember where I saw that though.

Have you considered Pawn Shop tools for the high risk of theft? They sometimes sell wrenches by the pound, very cheap.

How about getting a set of Craftsman, hit them with a sandblaster and then splash a little green and pink paint on 'em and nobody will touch them.

I agree..


Pawn shop or local used "tool barn" tools can be found cheaply and are easily replaced.

I had to replace all my tools when there were ripped off and I went to the local Used tool barn, I purchased Good name brand sockets for $1 each and wrenches for 1 or 2 bucks.


Insurance wasn't helping with replacement cost so I was able to keep the cost down seeing it was coming out of my own pocket....

Logical was the closest, but I need metric (already have a good set of standard). To get all the sizes I need (some oddball stuff) they are around $400 from Snap. They don't have the Sunex from thetoolwarehouse.net, only the V8. For those posting regular wrenchs, these are open end, and Flare nut end, in metric. Need some oddball sizes also for some things like some odd hydralic stuff.

What about buying a cheapo metric combination wrench set and cutting a section out to make a flarenut wrench. Who'd want to steal them?

emco and MSc just had a sale on a nice stanley set for 170 bucks , mostly metric sockets and drivers in 1/4-3/8- 1/2 6 and 12 pts . bought a set for my truck at work , pep boys had a real cheap set for sale with a plastic carrying case , got that one for 49 bucks , and no onewants to borrow my tools no more ...

? I think you posted in the wrong section, this is about the wrenchs that are flare nut end (side 1) and open end (side 2). I thought about cutting the wrenchs, but I think they aren't designed to be done like that without spreading. I am working on good ones for the shop, and getting cheapies for the travel box (the one that has to be left in the truck).

Lotta times you will find old combo wrenches that have a line window cut out of the box end, I think that would work just as good today as it did back when.

My .02 at this point... just buy them from V8 tools. then you don't have to go looking through pawnshops and garage sales, nor do you have to makes something up. Unless, of course, you have the time and inclination to do those things. But for the here-and-now, I would bite the bullet and get the set from V8 tools.

He's looking for a specific type of wrench open end on one side and flarenut on the other side. For this type of wrench V8 tools is the cheapest.
