Need advice for design

Because of the new home development I am building a home at, I will need to have a tandem garage to house 4 cars.

The 2 exotics will be parked in the forward spots and the daily drivers will be behind.

The garage will be heated.

During the winter, I want to some how separate the front half of the garage from the back half.

That way, as I do my yearly auto work and projects on the exotic, the cold from the in/out activity of the daily drivers will not creep into the back 1/2 of the garage.

Essentially, I want to separate the back half of the garage the front half during the winter months.


Any ideas?

Has anyone ever done this?


Perhaps a roll down door from above, similar to the type on storage units?

you could separate the two halves of the garage with those pieced together walls like you see used in schools to separate auditoriums and double sized class rooms.

I would build a frame that you can hang 4x8 sheets of plywood from, via a few deck screws. Obviously some will have to be just hanging from the top edge, but can be attached to other sheets at the seams. Take them down in spring and stack as a set of sheets.

Couple of reasons. 1. The heat speeds up the rust reaction for salted vehicles. Keep the daily driver side cold. 2. Keep moisture from opening and closing the overhead doors from your project side. 3. Smaller cubed volume to heat (and or cool).

I would just put a roll up sectional door half way back. Glass, like a gas station.

Try using the general search term "Accordion Doors" or "Folding Doors" (should pull up what's used in hotel meeting rooms, convention centers, auditoriums, ...).

The acoustical types are insulated, so that should help with retaining heat as an added bonus to reducing noise.
