Need advice for insulating pole barn

Just joined the forum and appreciate the help in advance. I have a 24X32 pole building with 12 foot ceiling. As of right now im really only looking at the ceiling. I dont use it for storage or anything so all my heat rises up into unused areas. I have a propane heater adjustable to 200k btu, I really only use 1/2 the garage as the other is storage aka a couple Mustangs im saving. What I was thinking was doing 4X8 sheets of foam board insulation in half the roof then using some thick plastic to come down and block of the unused section. I am hoping that I can get away with 3/4 thick or even an inch. What are your guys thoughts. Normal lows around 20 here in the winter. Just trying to make a difference for cheap as of now, will eventually do the walls and maybe double up the foam ceiling.

Put up the foam board and throw some 6" Fiberglas batt on top of it. Plastic will keep the heat local to where you are working but throwing some fiberglas batt into the walls isn't much harder while you are doing the ceiling.

Is there a concrete floor?
If not, definitely put down a vapor barrier to reduce condensation.

Yes it does have concrete floor. I was looking around Lowes today I can get 6mill roll of plastic 100X20 foot for $100. Thinking of just stapling that up on the ceiling and sectioning off the garage for now, I can always put foam boards on the plastic

Your geographical location might be of assistance. You can add it in your profile. I have a 32'x40' pole barn and I enclosed a ? 20'x20' area of it in plastic for years while I was restoring my '65 Impala and used a torpedo kerosene heater on a thermostat for bursts of heat. Good luck.

I live in Delaware it gets cold but usually lows in the 20s or 30s at worst. I was thinking of just using the plastic then go from there, maybe eventually using the foam board for the walls
