Im in the middle of building my 38 x 40 garage. The left side of my space is going to be for my work area and lift. Im making the roof line match that of my house. So the trusses for the left bay will be like this ^. The right side which is parking side will be facing the opposite direction. The walls are going to be 16ft on the lift side. Here is my question. All the framing is 2x6. The wall I build down the center to support the roof, I was going to do the same as the rest. 2x6 on 16 centers. Im wanting to keep the floor open as much as I can. Would it be possible to use 6x6x16 posts with some 2x12 headers to span say 9ft down the center of the garage? I concerned if it will support the roof. I believe it will but Im by no means a carpenter and am second guessing myself. Thanks for the help.
