I'm going to put up a new garage where I'll be doing hobby automotive repairs and restoration. I'm looking for a compressor that will run air tools like sanders and grinders. My budget is $1000. Any suggestions as to size, what to consider, or what to avoid. Thanks

Pay close attention to the pressure ratings. My older IR 5hp 60 gal is only rated to 125PSI. Through all the pipes and hoses I’m only getting steady 80PSI at the tool. Next step will be high flow couplers.

I was to replace it I would get one rated at 150 or 175 but it came with the house.

Not sure where you are located, but look for an older used 80 gallon IR, Champion, G&D, Quincy two stage compressor.

Buy enough first time around. 5 hp 2 stage is standard for body/paint work. With a new unit unless you are 21 it's unlikely you will need parts.
