So I did the brakes on my wifes 2015 edge ( first time, low mileage vehicle etc ). I couldnt believe that this thing called for 11mm hex socket for the front pins. I didnt have one, Advance Auto, Auto zone, Lowes or HD didnt have one. NOR did they have a set. So Im off to buy a set now. Mine only goes to 10mm but Im looking to buy all new hands tools anyway.

So, with that being said, what brand is worth looking at on Amazon? Neiko tools seems to come in WAY less that Tekton which is good money wise, but looks like Neiko skips sizes... Anyway I need some suggestions on brands that are acceptable. Prefer no skips so I dont come across this problem again. I had to stop the job ( finished the rear at least... ) all because of one missing hex socket.

Although they don't offer an 11 mm bit socket (they do offer a 7/16 though), For Bit sockets, I really like Vim and Capri tools. Every once in awhile Capri will offer their rail sets on sale for $25 a set which is a great deal to me at least.

Capri is what I recommend. I’d recommend getting off their site so you can get points to use towards other purchases and they won’t give you hassle with warranty that way either if it was needed. I believe O’Reilly sells an 11mm hex bit. If you have one near you. As everyone mentioned 7/16 will work too. Also a trick my automotive teacher taught me is you can sometimes find a torx bit socket to fit in a hex if you don’t have that size. It won’t damage it as it has points too. I’ve done that in a pinch many times.

Personally if I were in your situation I'd call up my nearest MAC or Snap On guy and see if they'll sell you the single 11mm hex socket.

Its not because I think everyone should just buy from the tool trucks every time, its because I have the worst luck with fasteners like those. Its probably beat up from someone with an impact in the past and has at least some rust eating away at it. I'll gladly pay the $10-20 for a single socket if it means I have even a slightly better chance at getting it off without trouble. Its going to cost you a lot more in time and money if it strips out.

I have full sets from Capri, Casoman and Neiko and they're all fine - no complaints. I just replace the most common sizes and skips with more expensive bits. Plus whenever I run into a fastener that I'm not confident about because of rust or how difficult plan B will be, I'll often upgrade those bits too. An extra $10-20 tacked onto every project is hard to notice but over time you end up using the best tools money can buy. Any extras get stored away for those Sunday evenings when you break a bit and there's no one open.

How do you know it's 11mm and not 7/16". My Grand Prix was a mixture of mostly metric but some SAE as well. As previously stated 11mm is so close to 7/16 that both are within the manufacturing tolerance of the other. They are for all intents and purposes interchangeable.

I have a mix of Tekton, VIM, and Capri bit sockets.

Some sets, some individuals.

I don’t really notice a difference.

ok here's this set. It does skip 13mm, but that's likely so the superstitious will still buy it. It has 11mm as well as 7/16.
It's reasonable too.

I have an upcoming transmission fluid change on my Toyota. I didn't have a hex that would fit the drain plug, ended up ordering a Snap-On. Yes, overkill, yes, expensive. My reasoning was, I have higher confidence that the Snap-On is going to fit properly and less likely to round out the plug. My opinion the Snappy helps reduce the chance of operator-induced screwup. I also bought a 25MM 3/8 drive 6 point socket for the fill plug. I thought it just maybe a little easier with a 3/8 drive ratchet. Again, went with Snappy. Totally understand they are expensive, but they had socket, which is kind of an unusual size in 3/8 drive.

My mom has an Edge, I'm sure I'll be doing brakes on it sooner or later, will get an 11MM ordered up.

This is why I always have a set of impact rates allen bits handy. Just grab what size you need put it in the corresponding impact socket and their you go. I seem to always run into an odd size my set doesn’t cover.

Unless I'm wrong that Toyota transmission uses a 24mm socket. Check out videos by the Car Care Nut. He's a master Toyota tech.

Unless it’s been replaced it should be a 24mm head on the fill plug.

Could be one of those without the dipstick and have a 10mm hex for the fluid level check plug and in some cases a separate 24mm drain plug. Tacomas are like that.

The check plug is a 5 or 6 on 2nd Gen v6 auto Tacoma’s. Drain is a 14 and fill is a 24.

For anyone looking to add an inexpensive 3/8" drive 11mm hex socket, NAPA has the Carlyle version available for $4.99 this month. Part number is CHT SH3811M

Link: https://www.napaonline.com/en/p/CHTSH3811M

I bought the 3/8" drive 9mm hex socket from Napa a few years ago for a brake job on a Ford Escape.
