My primary use is buffing/polishing aluminum motorcycle bits, wheel rims, primary covers and that sort of thing. For the past two years I've been using a HF 1/2 hp 6" buffer and it seems to get the job done. (3600 rpm)

Does it buy me much to step up to a 3/4 hp baldor or do I need to be 1-1/2 or 2 hp to see much improvement? Am I accurate in thinking that for aluminum I could use either 1800 or 3600 rpm and be fine by varying the buffer wheel diameter to increase/decrease surface speed?

Is there a huge difference between 110v and 220v single phase in terms of day to day usage?

Thanks in advance,
Dave
