Can anyone tell me something about this one. I'm not a machinist but I'd like to dabble in it. The description just says "works good, good condition".

I know from a little research that there are differen head types. Some less desirable than others. It's not too expensive which makes me think it's a less desirable type but maybe not. I don't have the experience to tell by lookin'.

Series 1, J head, with riser, 42" table is my guess from that FUZZY picture.

I'd like to know what that thing is in the spindle...

$800 would not be a bad price if it is a J head with riser and 42" or larger table in serviceable condition.

I'm of the opinion that if your going to get something to learn on then get it. If it runs, the power feed works, and the vise is included then go for it. You will be making chips, learning the machine and tooling up. If you get to the point that this machine is not accurate enough for you then send it down the road and get one that has what you need. All the tooling and peripheral stuff you acquire will also support the new better machine.

I paid $3,500 for a rebuilt 9x42 with a vise and digital read out with no tooling in Minneapolis. Thats what they go for here, and I did alot of looking for mine. If you look at the front of the riser on top you may have to crank the table back there is a number stamped there. If you google that it will tell you when it was made. Hope this helps , Steve

I saw one a while back for like $500...I really don't have the room, so I had to pretend I didn't see it..

LOL, I tried to pretend I didn't see this one too. Problem is, I found some other stuff that I've been looking for too. It's all in the $6-7-800 range and I can't get it all at once:(.

Thanks to everyone for the input. I emailed the guy yesterday and haven't heard anything. I hate it when they don't give a phone #.
