THANK YOU to KMScott! - got a nice slide chopped off an organ donor that will work great with some minor surgery. Off to the tool room!
I've got an old vise I want to repair. It has a large chunk broken out of the slide and gone. If I still had it, it would be way too easy! So, what I need is a piece of a cast iron slide that's the same size (or a tiny bit bigger). It's 3" tall by 2" wide, and the missing section is nearly 4" long. So, check your scrap buckets and see if you have a piece that I could cut a patch out of.
Take a look at the picture-- the vise in question is a Yost No. 1, but that size slide looks to be pretty common, and the internal shape is of little concern.
More pix on page 580 of "The Vises of Garage Journal" in General Tool Discussion.
Thanks
Oh, and not looking for charity. I'll pay!
