My girlfriend bought me a new craftsman compressor, 33 gal, 1.6hp 110 which seems nice but am torn on returning it and picking up the husky 3.2hp 60 gal for like $30 more. Problem is that I will have to run 220 for it.

Not that I will be using it a lot now but from what I have read that the small 110 compressors really can't keep up and for $400 I can get the husky and will do a better job. Let me know if there is any problems with the husky or another option for around the $400 range.

Thanks

I think the husky would be the better deal.
if you need a portable compressor you can add a small pankake compressor later

I agree with getting the larger compressor.....I have the Husky 110V 30 Gal one...works ok....but it takes a long time for it to fill up.......I'll keep running the dog **** out of it until it dies....then bigger

So...tell the wonderful girlfriend that your buddies over here at GJ are impressed that you have such a great GF....but suggest that maybe you go with the larger compressor....it's a better long term value.

She is pretty cool, bought me a 42" costco box last year. I am thinking that the husky will also be quieter and won't run as much as the smaller one and that will make her happy since the garage is connected to the house.

60 Gal. Upgrade now while you can, not later when you regret it. Get something with oil lubrication and a cast iron pump. You will not be sorry you did for the cost.

I have had both units you are talking about. The Husky is a better deal in every way.
The Craftsman (actually my sisters unit) is noisy and as you say, spends more time running.

The Husky '3.2' which would have been rated at 6 or 7 hp a few years ago, is actually not too loud, works pretty good. Campbell Hausfield makes them, by the way, so parts are easy to get.
Stringing 220 isn't that much work. You only need a 20 amp breaker for that compressor. You can run it with a pretty long cord if you want to. It only draws 15 amps, thus even a 10 gauge wire is more than adequate.

Girlfriends come and go but a compressor lasts a long time. I say upgrade. :)
As for 220, you will find many other uses for it.

Is your Craftsman an oil-less model? If so they are loud as can be. Get the oil-lubricated model, it will be much quieter and also not have to constantly run.

Running the 220 is easy enough, and then you already have 220 for your new welder she can buy you next year!
