Need dripcap help for a small lean-to build

Today I'll be hanging the rafters and completing an 8'x8' lean-to off the side of a small shed. This shed has cedar siding and placement of my 2x6 header board was done so it sat flush against the siding. Any up or down would have had it rotating against the thickest edge of the siding.

I purchased a length of galvanized drip cap when I bought my materials but the top edge of the 2x6 is not close enough the bottom edge of the next higher length of siding to slide underneath it and then lay on the top edge of the 2x6. Sorry, I may not be describing this with the correct terms but hope the pics help.

I only had a small gap between the header board and the siding so just ran a bead of caulk but am still unsure if something else should be installed here. Any suggestions?

If you could move that 2x6 up where it's 10"-12" under the above soffit you really wouldn't have to worry much about normal rainwater.
Normally you'd complete the framing and the roofing, then loosen the lower edge of the next (up) siding board, bend a piece of flashing to the appropriate angle and work it under that siding a few inches. The lower edge of this flashing should cover the roof by about 6" and get face screwed or nailed with a dab of roofing tar (caulk).
The term drip cap (to me) means a much smaller flashing for window or door trim flashing.

You need a "L" flashing and some counter flashing on top that fits well up to the next board up. I'd post a pic but GJ has made if difficult to upload pics unless they are first downloaded to my computer. Sorry, not doing that.

How is the roof of the lean to going to be at the header ? You have to think like water does. I would wait until the roof of the lean to is up and then go buy a roll of sheet flashing and tuck it under the next siding board above and then bend it so the water runs off onto the roof of the lean to.

I’d also stick some gutter on the shed roof on that side.

Any significant difference if I decide to go with either of these metal roofing styles? The benefit of the right one is I can get it in the same color as my house trim. The color doesn't matter to me but the roof will be visible to a couple neighbors and I'd rather not have a shiny silver roof appearing from their backyard view. I believe both offer the rigid filler strip to help me finish the flashing on top of it.

And...how do I handle overhang on the sides and lower end? Should there be overhang? I will have bracing running across my rafters so I can add a little overhang on the sides. Do I have end the lower edge right at the end of the rafters (I'll have a brace running across here too).

You want the metal to be 2 - 3" wider/longer than any wood to put it simply.
The painted panel is a better product imho.

Yes. And that vertical distance to the siding above is good because rain will bounce up off the flashing .
