Sorry to hear of your difficulties, Chances are this guy is just a reseller and never even used the wrench and probably didn't know if it worked or not since you really have to put a load on it to see if it skips. I got burned on a 1/2" ratchet on E-bay this way. In my hands it felt fine, but it was two weeks untill I got a chance to use it and realize it was broken, I already left feedback so I just ate it, my SO guy felt sorry for me so he gave me the parts to rebuild it. But I'm done with buying junk from Ebay.

If he has not responded to your note within 24 hours and is actively working to resolve the problem to your satisfaction I would:

Contact eBay cutomer support.

After 48 hours I would open a square trade dispute.

There is no way I would accept "Nice Condition" as broken/unusable.

I feel that 48 hours is long enough to give a seller a chance to make good on an errornous item.

A suggestion - always try to pay with paypal as it does offer some protection from bad sellers and if enough paypal claims are submited eBay will kick off even power sellers.

I only had to initiate a square trade dispute once (in 100 ebay transactions).

Let us know how they respond.

Hello, the whole story sounds strange to me, if you had a set of gears already you obvioulsly know what you are doing so you had to contact some people?? Sounds really odd. I would prefer to just have it back instead of a 10.00 credit, I will just take it to my snap on man and get gears for free, they have a lifetime warranty. If not I will give you a 5.00 credit, I didnt test if first, ALL of my broken stuff goes to snap on for free replacement because I dont intentionally sell broken items. Let me know your preference. He told me the same thing, he kept saying he would "prefer to have it back" insetad of any refund. And make sure you demand return and initial shipping costs refunded as well. Its not YOUR fault you wasted shipping money on an item he missrepresented.

Again, he has no feedback power anymore, make sure he knows that if he doesnt make this 100% right, he will be receiving a negative. I wouldnt normally threaten someone like that, but this guy ASKS for it!

Give him a negative. Refer him to this board so he can know how many people will avoid ever buying anything from him.
Keep the ratchet and take it to your Snap on man.

He is 100% at fault. If something is broken it is not in good.....or even average condition so you wouldn't list it as such. If he forgot to check it then that is his fault also....he listed so he is responsible for knowing the condition.

If he wouldn't have listed a condition then that's another story but anytime you use words such as good, working, excellent, mint or whatever then you are on the hook for it.
Sellers such as him make ebay a bad place.

I just got screwed on this ratchet:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...70059585450&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:MOTORS:1123

Its not an 80 tooth as advertised. I caught the auction at the last minute without googling the part number like i normally do. Turns out its a 36 tooth and not 80 as advertised. The seller won't do anything for me, so i'm going to leave a negative and do a chargeback through my credit card.

Heres his last reply to me:

Dear laptop_service_center,

just send it back and i will refund the transaction because if you do a charge back i will dispute it and paypal will ask for you to return the item anyway.. if not i will win the dispute...

What an ***.....

That's the kind of **** seller I'd like to smack with a broken ratchet. Neg him. Hopefully he'll lose his account soon. Clowns like him have been killing the good sellers for too long.

$61.00 is kind of high for a used ratchet, but it looks like it's in really good shape. As for it not being an 80 tooth, you should have known; the FHF936 has 36 teeth right in the part number; and if that's not enough, the screw heads up topside are a dead give-away.

Ya, i shoulda known right off, but caught the auction in the last 20 seconds or so and made a snap decision to bid on it, bid, won it, then never looked at the auction page again till it arrived...but that doesn't excuse the seller for being a liar

Hold on a second, not everyone is an expert on SO ratchets and their part numbers. Yes, I'll admit that even I could tell from the part number that it has 36 teeth, but the listing repeatedly describes it as 80 tooth. You can't make claims in your description that are false and then blame it on the buyer not doing enough research. Yes, buyer beware, but there are limits to this.

They copy from snap on to show retail price, plus he was not honest to boot.

That's why I'm available via PM 24/7. :D

I gotta hand it to you dude, you usually have some kind of witte comeback for everything. To be frank, you strike me as one of those guys who are annoying at times, but somehow you can't dislike them even when you try.

I think the seller stated that your ratchet was an 80 tooth model because the Snap-on website will take you to the current model if you do a search for an obsolete model. If you do a search for an fhf936 you get this:

http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/search.asp?partno=fhf936&searchTrnsfr=true&search_type=Part&store=snapon-store

Add it to your cart and the stock # changes to fhf80.

If the seller had 1/2 a brain, he would've known what SO's site was doing.

By the way MAD, please use caps when listing part numbers; don't be like Krusty. ;)

I am only offering an explanation of what probably happened, not an excuse for the seller. The internet has made everyone an "expert". Assume they all have only half a brain until proven otherwise.

That gets under your skin?

Take this: Snap-On Snap-On Snap-On Snap-On Snap-On Snap-On Snap-On Snap-On Snap-On Snap-On Snap-On Snap-On Snap-On Snap-On :p123

Oh and he left me an e-mail

Wow, you have way to much time on your hands to worry about that ratchet, you should really get a life. I do just resell tools and don’t test any of them, the money really means nothing to me as I am a physician in southwest Missouri where evidently everyone screws everyone here – that is according to your forum. This is just a hobby for me. Making mid 6 figures is plenty of money I just love tools especially snap on. So check your feedback, sellers like to see what kind of feedback new ebayers have, therefore I have allowed them the pleasure of seeing how you handle transactions. If you remove your negative you left me I will give you the 10.00 credit towards future purchases. No biggie your choice. Sincerely Bryan

This guy is sick, and definitely has an inferiority complex of some form. If he doesn't test the tools, he needs to clearly state that in his auctions!

If the money didn't really matter to him because he was already wealthy, he wouldn't have argued over simply refunding the $20, as a result of HIS negligence!

And his feedback comment is silly. If you bid in the last few seconds of the auction (either manually or by snipe software), which will give you a better chance of winning anyway, the seller cannot cancel your bid, and unless you don't complete a transaction with them, they should have no reason to care what your feedback is.

This whole thing comes down to taking responsibility, and showing respect, something that spaz-stingwray doesn't seem to understand. Its not so much the money, its his awful attitude.

I didn't see that post until wrenchr quoted it; probably because it didn't have quote tags on it.

I can't believe the guy said that.

We need to all pull together and get that guy thrown off eBay.
